Hey, after just one week of riding a proper bike, I have experienced my first accident.

I left my street turning right onto a main road, continued for approximately 50 yards and was about to pass a sideroad on the left. There was a car waiting at this sideroad turning left. He looked my way and I was almost certain he had made eye contact so I continued riding. Just as I was passing the junction he pulled out in front of me forcing me to swerve and brake heavily avoiding collision. The tyres were still very cold and the front tyre slipped and we went down on the side. I was only travelling 15 mph at the time and didn't think that my legs could be as bad as they are from a fall at a speed capable of reaching on a pushbike.

I was wearing jeans now shredded, normally always wear my leather trousers but was only going down the road to halfords for some chain lube.

Well, the police quickly arrived and took statements from different witnesses including my girlfriend who stood watching it happen, and also the woman I went sliding into on the other side of the road.

The man was very sympathetic despite me screaming and shouting and calling him every name under the sun claiming "Sorry, I didn't see you". All in all, the stereotypical motorbike accident.

The man has been reported by the police for driving with undue care and attention.

I spent 4.5 hours in hospital being tended for my gravel rash. This is on both knees and my right hip.

Damage to the bike includes :

snapped brake lever
severe abrasions on front fairing / right bar end / wing mirror / indicator
smashed screen
severe scratches on top and bottom right hand fairing
scratches on rear right hand fairing
loose footpeg

All cosmetic that shouldn't be too difficult to repair.

The man has since contacted me by phone and has admitted liability, so it is just a waiting game to be paid out and whether or not his insurance company will actually let him admit liability.

If any of you would like to see pictures of my wounds, I have had to take some courtesy of Tin (Cheers mate!! Thumbs Up Mr. Green ) (20 mb total) I will also be taking photos of the damaged bike and the junction where the incident occurred.

it's one of those things isn't it... another 'motorbike accident' and yet you did everything you could to drive sensibly and it was the car driver who was the idiot Rolling Eyes

But at least he admitted it! Makes a pleasant change... good luck getting it patched up and back on the road Smile

At least the guy is owning up to his mistake, but still, not a nice experience, nice new bike, freshly passed test, and crashed :<
Hope it all gets sorted quickly. :>

I'm so sorry to hear about your accident Slavo Crying or Very sad

I know it doesn't always help when people say this, but it could have been far worse and the main thing is that you're ok.

Thumbs Up
