I wanted to add my new bike onto the existing insurance policy and they said it would be £145 for the remaining 70 days (third party) so I went elsewhere and paid £138 for a year (fully comp)

Im going to write to the insurance obudsman just for the hell of it.....

I think that I might write to Swinton, tell them that I no longer possess and therefore they no longer have an insurable interest in the vehicle, and that should be that as far as covering myself.

Then wait for their invoice for £50 and use it for hamster bedding.

And prepare my anus for debt collector harassment, but that would be a battle for another day.

I got a letter threatening that recently, it was to my parents' address though, and it's not their battle, so I paid up to save them the hassle. What do they actually do?

Im with swinton. Had to do this last week. I couldnt just had the Ninja to my policy, I had to cancle it and then reset up a new poilcy. AS I was taking out another policy they waved the £50 admin and gave me the £30 cashback off my policy.

I just had to pay £30 fee for time I had policy (was £70 for year) new poilcy with fees and both bikes has cost me £5 more a month than I was paying for the CB alone.

Although they did want to charge me £5 admin fee to use a credit card!!!!!!!!!! Neutral

I had an absolute nightmare with Swinton - detailed in this thread:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=261640&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

I won Very Happy

Swinton are absolute rip off merchants with absolutely no interest in retaining customers. I decided to not go with the cheapest quote and instead opt to go with an insurer that actually had good reviews - I'm sure it will pay off if I ever need to make a claim.

I really really wouldn't bet the life savings on that being fact, In fact I wouldn't even bet JiveBunny's rear wheel on it.

Not sure when people will realise that all insurers have their own interests at heart, not yours, and that by taking action without total understanding and preparation of what you are about to do just leaves yourself open to a world of aids.

I'll bet my ass that you declared your NCB to the new insurer as it will be at the end of the Swinton policy, didn't you?

Nah to be honest neither would I, but I did look through reviews of people who had actually made claims and they were a bajillion times better than those who had attempted to make a claim with Swinton. I'm hoping I never have to find out, but at least if I need to change my bike over the current company aren't going to charge me more than the policy cost in the first place Wink
