Anyone owned one? Faults/day to day living/tank range etc?

Any good/bad points?

Insurance was a little pricey for me, nothing extortionate, 210 instead of the 150 for my ZZR. Meant to be under valued, nice enough bikes. They do look pretty funky, but meh.

On a side note paddy, I've sourced the parts needed to fix my bike if you're still interested ;-P

watched a 23 stone m8 thrash the tits off three (yes 3) of them with her on the back (6 stone skinny blond ) i had a CBR600fn some times it was all i could do to keep up... it ate tires ,petrol, chains & sprockets brake pads too... but otherwise it was fine.. suprisingly nippy for what you would think.

Its that unsure attitude that people have towards them that makes them such good value i think. They were never the best bike which is why people question buying one, yet ask anybody who owns one and they seem to get top marks.

Worth a shot I'd say. Nearly had one instead of my cbr, rang the guy the day after viewing to say I'd have it, was beaten to the mark by hours Evil or Very Mad

21L tank with Fuelly reporting anything between 35 to 55mpg. Not bad at all.

It's the front that's more hideous I reckon. I kinda like the gills, but the face is hideous.

Funny enough, had one carve me up this morning, then perform an extremely dodgy left turn in the peeing rain.

He didn't seem too bothered by the lardyness.

I always regarded it as Suzuki's version of the ZZR1100 without the glamour. For some reason it never caught on (maybe cause it is as ugly as sin Laughing ) but the only one I have ever ridden certainly was no slouch and it seemed pretty comfortable.

I did only ride it for about 10 miles though so this can be taken with a pinch of salt.

I agree that these things do a have a bit of a cult image for being so much better bikes than they look or than most people who have dismissed them and never tried one would believe.

I know someone that's had two of them and swears they are the best all round jap bike for most things, but my own opinion is that they are a mid 90's Suzuki with all the crap build quality/ poor level of finish that you typically got from many mid 90's Suzuki's and Yams.

I agree with the poor mans ZZR1100 analogy and i suspect they would be as good a sports tourer as a Thunderace or CBR1000F etc.

I'd buy one if it was local, cheap and in great condition for the year etc, but i wouldn't go hunting one down over it's main rivals deliberately.

For me the 5 speed gearbox would be my biggest concern. It may be a different story but both of my 5 speed bikes (ntv and xj) felt as though they would have benefited with a 6th gear on the motorways. No real way of knowing without spending some time riding the bike though.

I mention it as you mentioned some touring use.

The engine is supposed to be a bit of a peach so maybe it wouldn't be noticed, still good for the naughty side of 170mph im told...

I'd be looking at a ZX9R if I ever found myself looking at an RF.

^ This. They do seem mega cheap as well. Shame about the grinning cheshire cat faces on the early ones.

Edit: How fucking weird about insurance. Insurance want to charge me £200 for ZX9R and £250 for the RF 900!

Bloody weird.

Cheaper to insure than my 600.

Good tank range.

Comfy (for a sportsbike).

Tours well.

Carries luggage ok Wink

Early ones eat their gearboxes, I fitted a Z1000 box after 3rd and 4th went bye byes. Suspension benefits from a ZX12r shock and a set up. Six pots are a pain, 4 pots fit.

It is the price lol... I'd have it but I don't have that sorta cash on that age bike. I bought my 92 Bandit for nothing and this 11 plate for a low low price Laughing

I could trade the CBR for RF and have your ZZr with funds but then I have 2 older bikes and tears in my eyes.

Why on earth would you do that! Laughing I say just take your CBR touring Very Happy You might as well enjoy it right Twisted Evil

If I could drop the price, I would, but looking at bike prices on eBay/Gumtree, I couldn't then afford to get myself a bike.
