Don't read it if you are easily upset or are lacking any confidence when riding at the moment. (I know you won't be able to resist looking now!)

It's a good case for doing/being as safe as you can.

That is really sad.Crying or Very sad

From what I can see, alot of his injuries came from not wearing proper equipment. Extensive hand injuries might have been reduced if he had been wearing gloves. That makes me want to go and buy a better pair.

Also so many of his wounds that got infected might have been prevented if he had had leathers on.

Hope his wee lad does okay.

That's awful. His poor lad.
How many of us have 'just popped out' in jeans coz we're not going far? How many of us have had near misses with idiots in cars?
Makes you shudder to think about it...

I've just read the main post and a few others, shame he killed himself Crying or Very sad but with all the injuries he had I can't say I'm suprised. Sad to hear though, and his son must be distraught I'd imagine Sad

I used to ride in jeans all the time for work, and quite often on longer ride outs and stuff too. Have worn trainers the odd time as well around town only.

Never been out without jacket/gloves/helmet on though.

Now, leathers aren't practical enough for work, so I bought some cordura bike trousers, they are waterproof too which is another Thumbs Up point and offer a lot lot more protection than jeans, I usually wear my jeans underneath the cordura too so extra protection/comfort.

Ok they won't be as good as leathers but they are 100 times better than just jeans and are as easily practical as jeans themselves. Good compromise in my opinion.

My gloves are crap, they are alpine stars "waterproof" ones, they are far from being actually waterproof and have no protection at all really. Must get some new ones Confused

If one person reads this and it makes them get decent kit which goes on to save them from serious injury, this bloke's death won't be so pointless.

I'm going to post a reply of condolences on they're forum. Let his son know that there are people from all over that are on his side. Thumbs Up

<EDIT> I can't, but my prayers go out to his son. I hope he is up there somewhere looking down on him.

Makes you think. Awfull, really awfull.

I think I will try and think about that every time I do something stupid on the bike and think what can happen if I'm driving normally let alone stupidly.

On the same lines my mums friend was a bike instructor, he was taking a pupil out last week. On the way back to the test centre along a country lane a car pulled out in front of him. He was killed instantly. The learner came round the corner just after it had all happened. No matter how good and safe you are there is always that risk we take.

Be safe.

I did a fair bit of research into Cordura before I swiched from dizzying in leathers to wearing it. On top of this, having now gone down the road at a little over 60mph in the stuff I can attest that a decent set of cordura gear with armoured inserts is very hardy stuff Wink
Can't say I prefer it to my leathers, but it's more than tough enough to take a spill and hold together. This of course is assuming you buy a decent set rather than one of the 29.99 specials, similar to leathers really.

That is so sad, wasn't expecting the footnote saying he took his life because of it, and also has a 7 year old son Crying or Very sad

Certainly shows why you should wear proper protection, regardless of if you think it looks rubbbish because it doesn't match your bike.
