Crying or Very sad

Yesterday was the coldest day that I can ever remember riding in. My hands were fucking freezing that I expected to take a fingers off when I removed the gloves.

Anything that you could consider to heat up my hands?
Preferably a cheap option as it is for use on my dirtbike.

Would those hand guards make any difference? It wasnt very windy yesterday and I wasnt riding on any fast roads so don't know if it was due to a wind chill factor or not.

Anything else you can think of? Even a make-shift idea - just something I can use to get to work and back - wont be doing any long runs when the weather is so bad.

bar muffs will make a hell of a difference wind chill from speed is causing most of the chill, BETTER THERMAL GLOVES that will go inside the bar muffs even better still OTHER THAN THAT ITS HEATED GRIPS BUT EVEN THEY LEAVE PART OF YOUR HANDS REALLY COLD WHEN THE TEMP DROPS. gggggrrrrrrr I hate the bloody caps lock key ...

"cold killer" glove inserts are the best thing since heated grips Wink

I couldn't quite get my brain round heated grips, it's my fingers that are cold and have little contact with the grip itself and I'm wearing thick gloves, so why heat the outside of them?

I have a set of Tuccano Urbano bar muffs on and thick gloves which takes a lot of the chill off.

Someone suggested in a not-too-recent thread that wearing one or two of those latex gloves under your actual gloves can make a world of difference.

I haven't tried it, but the logic is sound - warmth gets trapped in-between layers.

I find that the combination of bar muffs and heated grips keep the cold at bay. I tend to use a summer glove under muffs as easier to control bike!

Have tried, doesn't work.

About the heated grips, I imagine having a source of warmth is good. Especially combined with the muff so the heat gets trapped in there and maybe the entire area can become warm. Without muffs, I can't imagine the heated grips have much effect.

You wouldn't want heated grips without gloves. I had mine on 3 of 4 settings yesterday and it felt like my skin was going to peel off, that's with gloves on.

I use muffs as well and as well as the wind and cold they keep the rain off.

I use a combination of R&G heated grips, knox cold killer undergloves and spada vortex leather gloves.

When its really cold the tips do start to go a bit numb on my fingers after around 20 miles on an A road doing 'cough cough' 50mph - ish

This combination works really well I think.

I didnt fancy putting on muffs on my GSXR, but am suer that and heated grips would be unbeatable

Muffs & heated grips. Went from not being able to feel my hands to burning them. Mr. Green

In rough order of price/effectiveness, your options are:

Plastic wind shields ~£20
Muffs ~ £30-50.
Heated grips ~ £40-50
Heated gloves ~ £100+

I've been using some Gerbing's heated gloves over this last winter. Lovely and warm, but I have had some reliability issues (though they did replace stuff promptly). Check out my write up on the Gerbing's heated gloves on my blog.

The cheapest way I have found is. A set of cotton inner glove's, and a set of them plastic over glove's you can get free at garage's for fill diesel. It's a case of keeping the wind off of your hand's and keeping the plastic away from your skin. The wind is the killer. Plastic bag's over your glove's will keep the wind off as well. But you may look a dick wearing them.

Every day I'm getting to work and my fingers are in agony. I bought winter gloves only a few weeks ago hoping that might make it less so but to no avail, they keep my hands a little bit warmer for a little bit more of the journey but not quite enough to make it all the way. I'm loathed to buy heated grips and muffs now cos summer is just so damn close I can almost smell it so I'm going to persevere with the bright red hurty fingers for the first half hour of work and when I get home at night for a while yet Embarassed

This.

I used my heated grips with muffs and no gloves... on the hot setting, fuuuck that was warm Laughing Too warm.

You could see the burn marks appearing.. I have loss of pain reception in hands so its very hard to tell if its hot or cold, but yeah... Laughing Gloves, muffs and warm clothes, basically like being in a car.

It is. I had lovely warm hands with that combination.

I've taken the muffs off this week though, so I can get my fingers at all the controls properly. I don't like approaching a busy junction while frantically fumbling around with my thumb trying to locate the indicator switch. Why don't they make muffs go outside the switchgear as well?

Nother vote for warm clothes - as in many layers, especially round the upper body. As I've said in other replies, I've been out most days since September and have only been (slightly) cold a few times. I do wear two coats though - a spada biking jacket, and a much bigger lined waterproof coat over the top. When I've worn one without the other, or else fewers layers between those two, my hands have got cold. Btw my gloves cost 10 quid and are totally fucked now, having had the waterproof lining torn out back in october.

Heated Grips + Muffs seem to be the weapon of choice.
However I can't see myself getting on with Muffs on my SV, they look very restrictive.
So I'm trying to source some hand guards from a V-Strom Thumbs Up
Hand guards to remove wind chill & maybe adding heated grips later on Very Happy

Hand guards would look at home on your dirt bike.
Also, lighten your grip. I find my fingers get numb alot quicker on my throttle hand because I'm holding the grips too tight.

I wear a t-shirt and a Goretex Rukka jacket most the time unless it's going to be less than about 5c and I then put on my heated vest as well.
For legs I have goretex Hein Gericke trousers with the liner in.

Tucanno Urbano R361 If you have bar ends or R360 if you don't will go on almost any bike.

I have a pair of knox cold killers I wear under my bike gloves. Not felt even a hint of cold on my hands while wearing them on the bike since I got them. Cool

Got my heated grips from a dude off gumtree - £25 new, some russian branded unknown things but they work great on my cg when I was using it, and on a cg simple enough to fit. Also some used Givi bar muffs - great condition, £20 also Gumtree.
