Got the replacement points for the fuel pump in yesterday, so put that on today. One wire to solder, and a couple of screws. Someones been in before, as the existing points were filed or sanded, and the screw holding the cap on is missing.

Stuck the original exhaust back on the RC8. The aftermarket can was too loud even for me. The 6kg of extra heft is low in the frame so it doesn't feel that different.

I'm going to rebuild the other can to make it larger, and put a slight bend in the core.

Fork seals, the joys of trying to hold the spacer down, undo the lock nut and unscrew the cap.

Money bags with his brand name cooking oil! Laughing

I have a load of woks for old oil. We have a relative who thinks because my wife is Chinese she needs a wok every Christmas for the last 16 years. Not even proper woks they are just frying pans with high sides. Still means I never need to buy drip trays.

Indicators cheap eBay shite, bulbs not LED though some weird Chinesium bulb.

Nothing wrong with the brake hoses, the chafing is the outer slightly scuffed where it's secured.

Lever perch touches slightly, it's aftermarket. When I say touch at full lock it touches lightly enough you can't notice unless you try to pull a fag paper between them.

Fuck all wrong with the pedal, probably jealous the rearsets are worth more than his car

Rear wheel bearings new, there is no play.

Rear disc is fucked to the point it should have failed.

Been ignoring the suspension joint advisory for 3 years, sure it just gets copy pasta'd

Fluctuation is due to the rear disc looking like it was tossed in the sea, beaten with hammers and then tossed back in the sea (it's the original).

So really I need 4 decent indicator bulbs and a rear disc.

Chucked fuel pump back in. Bike runs like shit, won't rev. Took it back out. Relay is fucked. Bricks were shat when I saw it's almost £100 at Fowlers.

I've managed to snag a 2nd hand one for the time being from someone on a VFR group, and I'll figure out how to wire it with a normal 5 pin relay. £100 for a fucking relay... it's not made out of bastard gold. Thieving fucks.

I had a chap come round and instal me a new back-light lens cover in about ten seconds flat.
Coulda done it myself but he bought the part at Warrs without telling me, as a nice surprise.
Ahhhh, exes. Aint't they sweet? Laughing

It was only 11 squids. I had to call the man at the parts dept to make sure he'd ordered the right part. Laughing But it was super cheap as it wasnt an official HD part. Phew.

I often wonder the anality (?) mindset of some mot testers. I haven't had an mot for at least 6 years (i go 3/4 times a year), where the tester has even looked at anything but the clocks.

Usually it's coffee and biscuits then a pass sheet. This wasn't the normal bike bloke maybe holiday cover or something. It is funny he advised on some utter crap but let the rear disk pass which really, really shouldn't have.

We have one locally that's notorious for only doing old (think pre-war and old brit iron) or immaculate stuff (dressed up tourers). Outright told me, while I was locking the bike up in a parking spot at a shopping park, not to come for an MOT for "that thing" from him. I had literally just ridden back from an MOT and it passed with zero advisories. He's been dobbed to VOSA a few times for failing stuff that should net be failing in any way shape or form, but it doesn't stop people having to have it re-MOT'd and a fail on the sheet.

I get not wanting a dirty, ratty POS in your bay that normally houses pristine bikes and historical relics, but this was a decent enough and fairly new bike, and literally went through with no advisories 30 mins before the conversation.

You did the job using the hand held tool, decent effort Thumbs Up

I use this . Much less hassle, but quite expensive for what it is.

The man from the garage phoned to talk to me about the GSX750 and informed me that before anything else, it would need new tyres, so I approved purchase of two new something or other Bridgestones.

After that ... well, let's see.

Every time I do them I mangle the hell out of my hands with that thing and swear next time I'll get a better tool, then enough time passes that when I come to do them again I balk at the price of better solutions and mangle my hands again Laughing

Took the old beast into work, with my Penelope Pitstop scarf on.
Its very girly: pink and pastel blue, and if I knot it exactly a certain way, it flies out behind me when I ride.
Which I intrepidly do - coming along the Highway, trying not to hold up guys on sportsbikes ( Laughing) , weaving and dodging Cool I love the buzz of traffic.

Also, I noticed the bottom of a very nice Triumph owner in front of me at some point in both directions. You can't really help but notice bottoms when you're going along the Embankment at 20 mph in formation Rolling Eyes

Went down the Mall, as ya do. Both ways. Has to be done.

Central London, its not such a bad manor Wub

Today I have been mostly experimenting with exhaust systems on the XSR.

First attempt (previously mentioned) was effectively a straight through affair and obnoxiously loud - all mouth and no character Sad So I managed to turn up a can that suited the bike with a proper removeable baffle.

No baffle: still way too loud but at least an interesting note.
So-called "DB Killer with Cat" that drops in between the pipe and the can: zero effect, waste of time.
Supplied baffle, bare: noticeable difference in volume and tone, bearable.
Baffle + light fibreglass: sounded great! Unfortunately I didn't do a good job of packing it and it all disintegrated within moments.
Baffle + dense fibreglass: almost back to OEM noise levels but sounds a bit nicer.

So the upside is the weight saving - something like 15kg "lost" - and catching the studs before the corrosion did for them. (Another season and I doubt they'd come out cleanly.)

May have another go with the lighter fibreglass in the week but at least all the hard work is done Smile

Changed the oil on the CBR and gave it a wash. I also mucked around with the wax idle unit as it was idling at 4000RPM when cold, which is enough to give anyone a headache...

Turns out it was set so wrong that it was keeping the cold start valve open even when warm, causing crappy response at low revs, which is now fixed! Feels loads better Smile
