I was rebuilding my rear caliper until I snapped the Banjo bolt attempting to tighten it. So close but so far <sadface.gif>.
Good news is that the remainder of the bolt simply winds out so there's no need to go on the hunt for another tool to remove it or buy a new caliper. Thread looks good, seems head had had its day and sheered straight off. Hasn't been removed since I've owned it (last time I rebuilt I took the non-caliper end out because long story) and so lord only knows how long it's been in there for. Took some convincing to remove. New one on order.
Lesson learnt that tightening a banjo bolt into a caliper -- of which is, at best, a non solid object since it moves a little while being tightened -- requires extra attention and care.
Excuse me while I cry in the corner of a bus.

Replaced fuel lines and inline tap. Stutter at 7K has gone, much smoother. Used the Free-line go-kart stuff someone on here said was good.

And what, exactly, is wrong with it? Genuinely, if I'm missing something, let me know. Don't fancy shit going south if I have overlooked something, and I'll source a replacement 1" master cylinder. However -
Firstly, and most importantly, it stops without issue. The ID of the casting was fettled out to fit 1" diameter bars. I used longer screws to compensate for the additional width. It does not move, I'm not being dainty about trying to move it. There are no leaks and once the system was bled, it gripped the disc as it should do. ____________________ '98 VFR800 (touring) - '12 VFR800 Crosrunner (Commuting) - '01 KDX220 (Big Green Antisocial Machine) |

Bolts work very well in tension, but with there being so much loose thread there's some amount of sideways force being applied when you pull the lever.
That single bolt was not designed to handle that sideways force, eventually there's a chance it'll give due to fatigue, or the bracket where it meets the head crack.
I'd be wary and would use as a very short term bodge or to get you home, a long term fix, well - it's a no from me. ____________________

Anyone want a GSXR400RKSP for free before i set it on fire?

I've spent most of last week trying to sort this thing out as I'm doing the superbike school at Donnington on Good Friday. It ran fine last time I rode it upto 9k, then bogged down on WOT. Thinking it was just as a result of spending a lot of winter dumped under a cover outside I was thinking fuel or minor carb blockage. I put a fresh tank of fuel in it and pulled the float bowls, all ok. Still same issue. Mate came round with compressor, looked at carbs again, blew out all jets and galleries, problem actually got worse, 65 mph tops. On saturday I changed -
Plugs (Halfrauds actually had 4 x CR9EK on the shelf)
CDI
Hardwired the Reg / Rec
Tried another set of coils
None of which made a shit of difference. I also swopped the exhaust and radiator but thats not relevant to the running issues.
I'm actually beaten. It's won. I've stuffed it in the shed and was going to fuck Donnington off and take the hit on the Hotel but I took the YR5 out today and it's running well so i'll use that instead, it's not as nice handling and a hell of a lot harder to keep on the boil but it should do the job ok. ____________________ Be a REAL MAN! |

Katy came over, fitted a new rear shock and cleaned up the front brake on the GPZ for the MoT.
And fed me cake. I am not even feeling guilty. ____________________ Kal...

Seems riding through all the beast from the east shite nuked my SV's charging system. Was investigating having no dash with the key turned. Found melted plug into the starter relay and a burned plug at the reg/rec.

New starter relay and plug wired in, eyeing up a MOSFET RR install next. Wires to the stater seem fine but I think im going to have a look inside, hoping its not melted to shit ____________________ Previous : 09 Vanvan 125| 02' Sv650s || Current: 1999 Xj600n | 1992 DR650 RSE | 2005 Fazer 1000 |

This has got to stop! The more that toothless dipshit bangs on about this, the less embarrassed I am. Why, oh why, would anyone want to ride through winter weather?! Replaced a 4.5 year old (5 winters) Yuasa battery with a Motobatt as a precautionary measure.
Motobatt claims 20% more CCA and storage capacity for the same physical size. Got no way of knowing, but I just hope its as reliable as the Yuasa was.
Most importantly, its yellow and matches my rear shock.

Investigated a metal on plastic sound coming from front sprocket.
Found the chain had chewed through some of the plastic cover because the locknut was.....not locked. Only held on by the tab washer.
Suspect some over liberal use of GT85 a few weeks ago cleaning the crud from around the sprocket. It's abilities as a penetrating fluid seem quite good

Sprocket showing a bit of wear too. |

Not today but last Friday, Jimmy finished reconditioning my 750 cylinder head.
Its been skimmed ported, new APE valve guides and seals fitted along with new springs, no flow test unfortunately as he's a little busy with some mini twin engines so that'll be next year.

Should be getting my barrels back off of him this week, freshly honed and new pistons (the originals had suffered a little with what looks to have been oil starvation in the past).
Also acquired some CMA cast wheels from Malton a week ago, gives me a better choice of tire (Y) ____________________ Current: 02 FZS 1000 Some Bike Pics...
