Horns started failing on the faux-cruiser so instead of two small ones I thought I'd go with one big one

(one of the old "chrome" ones on the top right, new one behind)
So what to do with the old mounts? Not gonna be wasted:

And a cheeky little switch for them:

and yes, I know the bike need washing! ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

Mot passed, slight play in rear needle bearings but not enough for an advisory. Bits on order though as I like the mechanicals to be a1.
Thermostat replaced and carbs balanced, wasn't much out of kilter but it seems to have gained a little bit of extra zing. Temp gauge now stable ____________________

LMAO, "just the dirt holding it together" how many times I've I head that one
Today I finished tiding up the wiring with the fog lamps / new horn mentioned previously. I ditched the LED bar ends that no one liked and have put weighted bar ends on instead.
Unfortunately the gear shift display I had previously wired in had a cheeky little live feed from the DRL circuit that ran the LED bar ends so ran a new feed with proper connectors this time (instead of those shitty crimp block thingies.)
Went out for a ride in the last drop of sunshine and tried the new lamps as it was getting dark...
Quite surprised really! They're only meant to be 10W and TBH I only got them because they fitted the style of the other lamps on the bike but they're about as bright as wacking on hi-beam except filling in the low half of the light so to speak. Which is what fog lights are meant to do!
Glad I wired in the switch though. They're pretty unnecessary at night under normal conditions but probably worth leaving on during the day. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

failed the mot, all the lights taped up, reflector stuck on the number plate, bike checked, and double checked and checked once more
it failed because ---- front tyre on wrong way round
dunno even why it has a rotation direction arrow on the tyre, it's a great big knobbly mud plugger, but yeah I should've checked
got mousses fitted, getting them relubed/checked twice a year, too much of a struggle for me to do it, so got to go back to the rally place to get it done
apart from the day time advisories, no other problems at least |

Sandpaper the arrow off
Few mm of vertical play at the back wheel was pointed out to me at the recent MOT.
Changed lower shock needle bearing, dismantled cleaned and checked all other rear linkage parts.
After that the bike felt much firmer, no play at all so rolled it forward and the rear began to rise. Was also difficult to roll forward?! Pretty sure I'd done everything up the same as it was before.
Turns out I'd left a plank of wood under the bike! Rolled over it and all was good.
Not tested it on the road yet but I think it's going to be much improved. ____________________

I rode it with a plastic carrier bag full of rubbish on the handlebars.
Only from Tooley Street to City Airport, hardly a major distance.
But my god those carrier bags are proper annoying wankers, aren't they.
I'd only hung one of the carrier handles over the mirror, so the other one started to work itself loose just after I came out of the Limehouse Link, had to do about 30 all the way home just in case it flew off and dispensed my domestic litter all along the A13.

New boots, road 5's again. The rear had a couple of mm on it but the front was on the wear bar and had worn a funny shape. Even with the odd wear they still performed very well so I'm sticking with them. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Took it up the road for a tank of fuel. Mainly wanted to try out new lid and new boots. Happy with both. Pleasantly
surprised at the Biltwell helmet. Definitely a summer lid though. The vents can't be closed and the airflow to mouth
area is tremendous, had to stop and buff up as my lips were getting cold.

Yup another lazy Sunday washing the bike, very zen, turned out nice:

Saturday started with the intention of going for a ride. Rain put pay to that, so checked the front sprocket which was looking past its best at 25k miles (mainly because the nut came loose at x miles and it was flapping around on its tab washer ).
At 30k miles it now looked like this:
https://i.imgur.com/JWx35bk.jpg
Which prompted:
https://i.imgur.com/0v6ZQfT.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/HDMJQkn.jpg
Rear sprocket looked barely warn, but figured they'd all get done.
https://i.imgur.com/7ylvFF6.jpg
As the rear wheel was out, decided to replace the oil in the Daytona KYB shock because she'd been dragging her arse around after an hours riding for the last few months.
Plus, wanted to run a little experiment with ATF in the shock and a good opportunity to re-grease the linkage bearings.
https://i.imgur.com/PAHhkie.jpg
The first thing to go a bit pear shaped was the shock refill. It took hours because I kept cocking it up and letting air into it.
The second slightly sideways moment was.....the bike went slightly sideways on the Abba stand.
I was struggling to get the axle through the wheel and kept knocking spacers or brake pads out the rear caliper.
Eventually I resorted to whacking it with a block of wood (not the persuader in shot) .....rather than thinking, why is it so hard, it shouldn't be this hard.
The axle went in 40mm and stopped dead.
https://i.imgur.com/vBkC4yW.jpg
Trying to get the axle out, it was stuck fast. I wiggled the swingarm up/down and kept pulling on the axle......the bike fell off the Abba stand. It hadn't taken much force.
As far as I could tell, there was only 10mm of axle holding the rear wheel to the swingarm. But I had to disconnect the Abba fully and in doing so, get the weight of the bike on that 10mm of axle.
Tried bracing the swingarm with wood, but it fell away as soon as Abba was moved.
The frame took a sizeable war wound.
You can see how far the bike fell.
https://i.imgur.com/f9YMWly.jpg
That ain't normal:
https://i.imgur.com/4uNTvip.jpg
But I got lucky! Got the Abba back on while the rear end rested on that 10mm.
Took everything out (with some effort and luck) and just tried to put the axle through the wheel alone. It wouldn't. There were internal spacers that just happened to be narrowing the gap as one sat high as the other low. And whacking it with a block of wood hadn't helped
Once fitted outside the swingarm, bounced the wheel hard, and re-done as normal. It was fine.

Headed out 7pm and did 55 fun filled glorious miles

Felt great to see bends as things to attack with confident commitment again. What a wonderful bike this is!!!
......time to buy some new Abba adaptors and Triumph frame paint... |

The Spacker so needs a gold chainand Sprocket set, but for aesthetic purposes only so it can probably wait a while. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Piston with a new drain hole... Racing it, or just random catastrophic failure?
Today I was determined to get to the bottom of why the work rat would bog down, so...
Pod filter removed.
Carb stripped and jets totally cleaned.
Exhaust re-gooped with Firemate sealant.
Carb put back together after more cleaning.
Instant Gasket sealer on Manifold.
When tested, It played nicely and revved out into the redline as you would expect, at long fucking last. I'm a happy bunny at this point, and promptly chucked the filter back on and put the side panels back. It bogged. Removed filter again, and it was good. Air filter now binned.
I also went to replace brushes in the starter motor. Turns out it's a bit more serious than that.
https://i.imgur.com/j0DbXT6l.jpg
Permanent magnet became detached from outer wall, and spun, which in turn caused this...
