Work and back, as ya do.
Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge, scooting found the side of the lesbo zone, back up to Elephant and then Chelsea Bridge.
Pleasant enough little poo-tel.

Urban riding - if you're cool, its cool.
Cool

Oh yeah, and i used the noisy lock.
Tonight''s the first night my neighbours will be suffering it, hopefully not, lol
Got the bloody raincover on back to front, daft mare, but now I'm in me pants i'm not going out there to turn it round.

The cover can set alarms off in windy conditions, it tends to act as a sail and rocks the bike more than if you didn't have a cover on.

Wondering if you got repeatedly woken up by wind Laughing

I've done nothing to my bikes as such, but got given a trailer from a neighbour. Top bloke.

After moving couches and doing tip runs, I'm now *stripping* (steady on hellkat! ) it down for repairs and *lengthening* (calm down dear!) it so it can be used for bike transport.

The base is 6x4ft so I'll need to add a good *12 inches* (I know, I know, she's stripping off ready for action now isn't she!?) to the end to get two bikes on.

I've got 38ft of aluminium box section already lying around, so that should just about cover it. It'll probably need wheel bearing adjustment too judging by the play.

I'll bolt wheel chocks on and have a drop down ramp/door on the back to keep it as multi purpose as possible, as they're really useful for lugging other things than bikes.

Tried to get in a crafty last gasp track day early in October at Donnington.

Did the first session. Found a nice garage to hide in on the way back so I didn't have to hook the tirewarmers up to the Eastern Block style frame generator and listen to that blaring out all day.

Got bike on stands. Realised left hand side and corresponding boot was covered in cheapo semi synthetic. Swore. Chucked bike and kit in van. Sulked and went home. Only good bit was i got the second night in the Hotel back as i'd booked it on some gay "Flexi" thing.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50546906351_c632e43cff_h.jpg

Spoke to my mate regarding my conundrum and we decided that we may as well pull the engine and give it a refresh. Five years I've had the bike - fair amount of both road and track use in that time plus whatever abuse was heaped on it in the first 25 years of it's existence figured it was time (all i've done is changed the oil and checked the valves a couple of times).

He collected it and took it to his palatial workshop a week or two ago, engine is now out and top end off. To say i'm fairly impressed is an understatement. Ring gaps well in tolerance and virtually no wear on the piston skirts.

Bottom end feels fine and no gearbox issues so I think all that will get is the sump off to clean the strainer. Plan is to strip the head, check all the valves, do some gas flowing on the worst finished bits and rebuild with new valve stem seals. It will go back together without the base gasket (should gain approx +3 bhp) and with the extended intakes from the non-SP engine. Also plan to fit an Ignitec ignition and fit a carb heat shield / fresh air intake that i've been designing.

Really impressed with how it all looks inside though for an engine with no real known history then 5 years of abuse by myself. Considering it revs to 15500 rpm I can't name another small four stroke that comes anywhere near as far as menchanical toughness goes.

Some fettling with the Dr650

Stainless lines front and rear to replace ~30 yr old lines

https://puu.sh/GIllv.jpeg

New dominator can

https://puu.sh/GIllq.jpeg

Added folding mirrors and fitting up some handguards

https://puu.sh/GIll9.jpg

Sprocket carrier bearing was toasted so replaced it.

https://puu.sh/GIlkO.jpg

Carb has been a pain, majority of screws all chewed out and rusted. Mixture screw here, completely stuck and chewed. Drilled about half way into it, had a few attempts with extractor bits but they just ate through the brass, rather than gripping. Any thoughts? Not all the way through, so can keep running it for now.

Just a set of these and left hand drill bits, better tool for the job?

I've tried those and they will work with screws and bolts that don't require a lot of hoofing but with the more stubborn offenders I like to tap this type* into the drilled hole and use a ratchet wrench to wind the bolt out rather than a drill or impact driver.

Bought another one, gave it a clean.

Was someones labour of love for the last 3 years, has had pretty much every worthwhile mod done. He then found his arthritis was too bad to use the bike. The clocks (Smiths speedo part of the resto) has 1.2 miles on it! Needs a rear light and plate holder to finish.

Got a pile of spares too including some still packaged Hitchcoks ali mudguards.

Cost me less than a rusty one in standard trim, seller was a real old fashioned Gent.

Rode it round to the Ace
Rode it back.
Dodged raindrops.
Stayed mostly dry.

I am very fond of pressing myself into the wind that foretells a rainstorm. It feels like i am racing with my machine against the weather.

If you are in the market the seller has a solo 500 in full trials trim (with the ali tank and the 5 speed box) and a 500 with sidecar, also full trials trim. Guy is a retired weapons engineer so the standard of work is high.

Gay as it looks best car I've ever owned, they do distance in comfort and can be hoofed round B roads in a rather entertaining way. They are also weirdly cheap to repair, I have a habit of driving cars in to things so this is handy.

Ah forgot about that. Looks like it was coming from the rocker cover seal, finding it’s way into the plug recesses and then out of the drain holes at the front at the head. Bit of 100+ mph wind and it soon spreads everywhere.

Sadly I have neither the room nor the permission off wifie to buy something expensive that would be probably not much more than an ornament to admire when consigned to the garage for some misdemeanour. Laughing

Laughing I'm not the only one then. Though mine has wised up a bit and realised in there I have a coffee machine, laptop, big telly, bong, still need a little fridge though, those little UHT pots don't taste right.

If you ever pass this way you are welcome to have a play on either of my RE's. I'm 100 meters from the Plain so easy to go play in the dirt.

Not exactly. A bit embarrassing really. This was taken on a Samsung smartphone, but the lens needed cleaning. When I copied the image over to the computer at home, it was awful. I decided to turn up the contrast until at least the green colours looked green. Will be better next time.

Pepperami is happy today.
Sorry no pictures, it wasn’t that exciting enough to get the camera out.

The front caliper on ‘Project Scrappy Hyosung’ was REALLY seized.
The bolts holding the caliper to the fork leg and the bolts on the caliper would not move at all and I was concerned I might snap them.
After three weeks being dowsed in penetrating oil (Plus Gas) and some local heat applied via a soldering iron, and much wiggling they finally moved Very Happy .

It was hard being patient enough to let the penetrating oil do it’s thing.
However the bike is a lot easier to move about and now I can get on with fixing the caliper without breaking it and then having to source another one.

A tad more important if they allow you to toddle over with your own 5 litre container Smile

Finally put a new neutral lamp bulb in the Continental GT, almost 12 quid for a bulb the size of a bloody rice grain Shocked . Don't know why I actually bothered I'd got used to not having one.

Taped up all the lights on the front of the 350, MOT booked tomorrow. My tester is pretty cool but I think I'll get failed on exhaust volume it's ear splitting, annoyingly the only baffle I have is no good. Might end up having to buy one.

You ain't ever getting that out with an extractor of the type shown - you'll trash the carb long before it's out. I'd leave it well along. I could probably get it out but even that's no guarantee. Then you'll need to source a new one.

Aye, yep I left it when it did not bite the first time, still completely sealed. Ive got a replacement screw ready to go in, just annoying. Idle mix seems acceptable anyhow thankfully going off a colourtune. Slowly dialing in the tuning. It came with a drilled airbox and obnoxious straight pipe so just making sure its not gone super lean.
