Since the weather is still shite, Im guessing people will be getting their bikes ready for the eventual sunshine, working on projects etc.
I thought it would be nice to hear what you have all been doing?
I will start. Today, I gave my chain a bit of tlc and removed the god awful risers on my clip ons.

Look forward to hearing your responses Smile

I sprayed some WD40 in the ignition and started it after it was frozen.

Turned off and went in doors.

Not today, but last week (evenings) I fitted some new fancy LED indicators to my CBR600 and some fancy new high-power headlight bulbs.

sorted valve clearances for the first time since I got it two years ago - looks like the 'full service' the garage did before I picked it up didn't happen, all 8 valves were far too tight!

Rode it about 20 mile, then came back and changed the sprocket cover (original got slightly scraped when it went over on this weird uphill left hander in Bishop Wilton). Took a bit of scrubbing to get the 'new' used one looking okay on the inside, cos PO was obviously a bit remiss when it came to maintenance. Then I cleaned the chain with one of this 3 sided chain brushes (eBay, £4) and a bit of diesel, then put some gear oil on it (and a few dashes of 10/40 just for good measure). Then I cleaned the wheels - have to stay on top of those cos they're spoked. Meh.

CB-1 -> Oiled the chain and gave it a half hearted wipe over with a rag and wd40.

VFR800 -> Fitted the baffle into the stubby exhaust I recently fitted. Not that it made much difference, it's still too noisy. Oh well.

Needed front discs replaced for MOT. Dropped wheel and removed discs Wednesday, disc supposed to arrive Friday... didn't.

Rather than get angry, I've cleaned if and sanded all the scabby flaking paint back and given it a new lick today while it's all apart anyway.

Hope they arrive tomorrow and I'll be back on the road Tuesday.

Went offroad, loaned my other 125 to a friend and decided to see if the noodle box from chongdong land was any good.

Surprisingly, a superb little bike.

Dropped it pulling away from a set of lights at about 2 mph after travelling all of 100 feet then pushing it home. Not much damage at all really, thankfully.
Bent brake pedal, scuffed up bar end and some scratches on the timing case.
I think that is what it is Rolling Eyes

Busy weekend!

On Friday evening/Saturday Morning I fitted this lot to the VFR:

So. Why? Because I got fucked over when I bought it. It's a restricted Japanese model and down on power. That's a UK spec set of flatslide carbs off a newer model with a stage 1 kit fitted, a UK spec CDI and a set of UK spec cams

Carbs went right on, Needed to swap over the throttle cables because the originals were too short. Fired up and idled right away on them.

Swapped over the cams. Only three tappets landed up out of tolerance. Only need two shims. That's pretty amazing really considering the head they came off has a different part number.

CDI plugs right in. Pinouts and plugs exactly the same despite there being seven years between the two bikes. Just an extra wire on the Japanese plug for the top speed restrictor which was wiggled out of the plug and blanked off.

Today I fitted vacuum stubs to the inlet manifold (they were blanked off with crosshead screws which were a total sod to remove) ready to balance them once the shims arrive.

I also made a roadbook holder* for touring out of an electronics enclosure, a couple of hi-fi knobs, an old tent pole and some stainless fittings. Magnets on order to fit it to the tank.

*You write your directions on a long piece of paper and scroll through it as you go. Normally used for offroad competitions in the same way rally drivers use pace-notes.
