Then a nice 80 mile ride about to get back into the swing of things, the bike rides much nicer with a bit less pressure in the tyres, 34/38 is more to my liking than 36/42.

Did these get on easy or are they a bitch to install?

I was thinking of getting some.

Started it. Ran it. Stopped it.

Did all the pre MOT checks and got it booked in for 2 weeks time.

Offer up the covers to see which bolts to take out, take out the original bolts, offer up the covers and bolt them on with the supplied bolts, nearly as quick to do as to say. Thumbs Up

Just don't go full ape tightening them up as it's only a M6 thread into alloy, for my bike they recommend 6nm, slacken, re-torque to 3nm which is just beyond nipped up. I have a torque wrench that goes that low so I used it.

The crash bullets are a bit harder as they need to be lined up and tightened to 70Nm on my bike but still not difficult.

Toady step 1, decide what bike to pick up my lady on. Step 2 picked the lovely red gsx6r since valentines day and all step 3 ride out on a romantic trip and lunch. Got to clean it, drop it off and pick up my ninja and more than likely have to clean that too.

mate looked at it, removed handlebars, job done

took the opportunity to rotate bars forward as far as I could as I'm 6'2" and every bit helps, and don't want to spend money on replacement bars, or risers etc etc

Tidied up the wiring on the recently installed relays for my DRLs. All working OK.
Swapped the front weak grommet for the nearside side panel for the good one on the rear (bottom one is also OK). I had noticed that the front one was not holding the corner of the panel on that tight, so I will be ordering a new one. (plenty on the bay, nos)

Replaced my horn with a cheap chinese one. Genuine part would have been £20, this was less than a fiver, could have got one even cheaper but I didn't want to wait a month for it to arrive.

changed the oil, filter and plugs. I've been topping it up so often that the old stuff came out still looking golden but a tinge of carbon. Still.. at least the filter is new

Decided that since I cleaned the rear brake and haven't died and or the bolts haven't come undone I could be trusted to turn two, the front, crusty neglected calipers into ones more suitable for their intended purpose.

No after pics, not that they're needed, because was in a rush/half asleep/trying to get done before it rained. Convinced myself I've gotten copper grease on the actual pad and will die upon next test ride, wheey.

Fair to say I was generous with the brake cleaner, more crud than I'd anticipated. Long live winter, boo.

Having calipers that don't need the pistons touched or pushed in to remove the pads are a god send for simplicity/time.

Turns out I managed to dislodge the rubber that holds the brake line to the fork leg and was like "oh noes wut do?" for a moment. That and the fact I've noticed my speedometer cable isn't routed in its holder, not that it matters.

Plus I did learn how small the legal limit of 1mm brake pad is. Think I'd long replace it by eyeball before it gets that low. I got the ruler out and was like "wut?".

Basics clean and lube is a more simple job than I, long ago, imagined. To think I used to pay monies for someone else to do this.

I bought the same one for the triumph. I'm sure it was just over £1 including delivery from China. the cheapness still amazes me.

I had to fidle with the screw to get a decent beep though.

Only issue I had was the bracket appears to be fixed to the horn, I was hoping to use the original one as it sits better on the bike.

I thought about ordering from china but decided I needed my horn back in working order Smile

I removed the Acumen alarm because I am sick to death of not knowing if my bike will start or not when I fancy a ride.

My life is vastly improved. Thumbs Up.

Replaced one of the indicator flasher units today with one from a classic Mini parts dealer (lovely ride down to Nettlebed but I digress)
Let me explain. I have wired the DRLs through relays because I wanted them to go out on the side of which I am using the indicators. So needing there to be two flasher units, one for each side, I had got hold of a cheapo Chinese one. It was playing up and now both sides are working steadily and correctly. FWIW, another unit the same as the original comes at approx. 50 GBP. The unit from the Mini specialist - 4 GBP. No contest. (sorry, no pound sign available on my keyboard - Mac PC configured with Windows 7, pound sign doesn't work)
Next job today will be to start on my mirror mod. Son bought me a lovely new pair of mirrors a week ago, and I am fed up with dragging a 17mm spanner out of my pocket to slacken them off at the stems to get the bike through the entry. Can't pivot the mirror heads like I could on the old ones as these are too tight. So I'm going to make up two pairs of small brackets which will allow the complete mirrors to pivot inwards. (I suppose I could do that for SERIOUS filtering but maybe not at my age lol)
I will eventually get a couple of rubber bellows to make the set-up look neat.

Snapped the nearside front indicator off Evil or Very Mad
I was busy making a ramp for van as picking a bike up tomorrow. Didn't realise how close I was to the bike and stood up. Hard the crack and one indicator hanging by the wire.
They came as a set of 4 so guess I'm going to have 3 spares for the future.
All the wifes fault. She made me store a tumble dryer in MY garage which reduced my working space.

Fitted Exhuast flange gasket with a folded strip of copper sheet to act as a crush gasket as my flange is a tad bigger then normal Rolling Eyes due to past collector box repair and the aftermarket link pipe a tad slimmer, covered in gas gunk and bollocked the clamp up tight as, leak now you bastard Twisted Evil

Dropped both front calipers to polish the pad / slider pins as the salty roads this winter had had a good binge on them, causing the pads to drag a bit too much.

Cleaned, lubed and waxed chain

Covered the whole bike with a good'ol rub of acf50

Sorted, looking forward to the test ride tomorrow morning, excuse to get out for a bit fun for a change to the daily grind Thumbs Up

oh yeah that too Laughing

I remember that being a pain. I don't remember it taking that long to arrive but then the old one worked it was just rusty.

it's also been winter and I've take the out twice since I bought it in ermmm October. Embarassed to be fair though the paint shop person is taking the piss and has had the mudgaurd, belly pan and light cowl since November. every time I go up there it's 'it's been frosty didn't think you'd need. I'll do the next week". want to call him a cunt but also want my stuff painted Thinking

Also good for getting the foot and hand controls exactly where (you think) they should be.
Only faff with the Abba stand is when using the front lift arm and those slippy ratchet straps they send you.
