Rear brakes are for pussies and people doing CBT.

BCF has decreed real manly bikers only use the front Rolling Eyes

I agree with this post Wink Good question what do you do if you have no rear brake, a question for another time perhaps.

Don't know if its a Triumph / Brembo rear thing. But if there isn't a decent amount of travel in the rear brake pedal, then absolutely feck all happens at the back.

Even with 30mm travel, its still pretty crap.

Check the setup. If there is an adjuster on the section between the lever and the piston then by extending the adjuster (trying to limit play) you can pre load the piston. Hence the piston cannot return enough to allow more fluid into the master cylinder after braking. Normally this would just result in the brakes going really soggy as the pads wear and fluid is needed to take up the space).

Also could easily just be an angle thing. With 30mm of play the piston is being pushed straight when you need to use it, with less play it is being pushed at an angle (hence changing the lever movement to piston movement ratio).

All the best

TBH, the rear brake on the Strumpet is shockingly in-effective and it's virtually brand new at 18k miles

Cleaned it, waxed it, lubed the chain (and the seat and the topbox), topped up the lubeman and re-primed the tube. Fitted the ultra mega comfy seat. Checked the oil, tyre pressures, coolant level and brake fluid levels.

About ready to crunch some miles and see some new places Smile

EDIT:

During the week, I swapped this hard to use bodge for an indicator switch (held on with cable ties) on my XR

For this, another bodge, but held on by a bracket and an easier to use tiny dildo switch

Dropped it. FFS Evil or Very Mad

Got home late, parked up. Thought I'd oil the chain (since its been raining all day, the chain feels like its reaching the end of its life - 2nd adjustment in as many weeks- and I ran out of chain wax half way through lubing).
Tried to put it on the centre stand, misjudged where the other foot was going (it was not on the slab I park on), kept leaning the bike over expecting the foot to meet the ground. Instead the side of the bike did with some considerable force.

Dented tank, further scuffed exhaust, broken lug in front fairing. At least it started after a bit of complaining and nothing obviously seriously broken.

Not sad to see the end of today.

cleaned and loobed the chain on the thundercat. its nice and shiny again but wont last long.

yesterday a mate and i were chatting about tight spots in our chains and how we are going to order one at the end of the month.
his didn't get that far. Cue this mornings motorway antics which saw his chain snap at 90+mph, destroy the chain guard, the hugger and the left hand side fairing panel, an inch or two away from his arse

The engine cut out instantly as the chain wrapped itself around the front sprocket. it doesn't start and wont come out of gear.

how he walked away i have no idea.

weird thing was his wasnt rusty and has been getting a decent amount of lube every 200miles or so (which is two days for us).

he does engine brake a lot and canes it everywhere. The break in the chain was nowhere near the tight spots either Confused

Sunday I 're bled the brakes. Was some air in the rear but still doesn't seem to have made much improvement. The fronts are still marvellous though.

Today I stopped my fork seals leaving residue after each ride with the use of a 'seal mate thingy. A whole bunch of crap was released from one side Surprised great success!

I also replaced the headlamps with Chinese led ones due to one of the originals being stoned to death (pic on a previous page. Around 110 for 1 triumph replacement on 73 quid for these.

Impressed with the quality, have an completely genuine ( Rolling Eyes ) e mark and nice bright white light. I even prefer the look over original. Plug and play too Thumbs Up

I also touched a couple of brackets up with a lick of paint after a quick jet wash.

Finish polishing the pipes and a wash to remove all the dried water marks on my next venture to the garage.

Probably would have been a good idea.

I honestly can't remember the last time I rode in the dark, so for me it's not really a problem.

Wait...you mean you aren't supposed to use engine braking? Well shit.

Makes me nervous for my nice clean chain that nevertheless needs replaced.

Yeah, there is really horrible feeling when you realise the bike is going over and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

Found another crack in the fairing, right across where one of the bolts that holds it on goes.... Looks like I'm spending the weekend, trying to improve my plastic welding skills

As Julian Ryder once spat into a microphone brakes are cheap, gearboxes are expensive, but as that'll be someone elses problem I still do it Cool

It's positively filthy. Water marks and dead bugs everywhere...

I'm embarrassed to be seen with it.
