Yesterday I did do:-

Take the front and rear suspension off to be serviced
Took the wheels off to have new tyres fitted
Swapped the engine
Re-greased the swing arm bearings
Re-greased and adjusted the headstock bearings.

Knocked it off the stand and dented the front header Neutral

Wait...you mean you aren't supposed to use engine braking? Well shit.

Praying EndofthemonthEndofthemonth

As Julian Ryder once spat into a microphone brakes are cheap, gearboxes are expensive, but as that'll be someone elses problem I still do it Cool

Thinking Hmmm, when I was doing my DAS I was told it's fine to brake with the engine, but not with the gears. For example, we were taught to use engine braking to get down to the correct speed when moving from one speed limit to another.
In related news, cleaning and adjusting the chain today, a week of very very wet riding and the chain looked really good! Apparently engine oil is a great lube.

As for what I did to the bike? Bodged it, then bodged it some more.

Failed miserably to drill out the broken screw on the choke slide and ended up drilling the side of the hole. Drilled a new hole, tapped it and put locktite on the replacement screw. A problem to be properly sorted when the carbs are off the bike.

Plastic welded the crack on the side of the fairing from dropping it. Replaced one broken lug with a screw with plastic melted all over it (so it wouldn't cut the rubber mount). Tried to do the same with the other, but I think the mounting brackets must have been bent or something. Would not go in. Will replace with a longer screw at an angle next time fairing is off.

Cleaned particularly rusty bits off exhaust with brass brush in a drill. Repainted with 3 coats of Stove paint. Looks a bit stupid at the moment, but once it's dirty I am sure it will blend right in.

This bike appears to be becoming a reluctant rat bike...

Found two hoses that are cracked one from the crankcase and the other from the airbox. Going have to replace might explain the bogging down I keep getting.

Exhaust can popped off on the A5. Did some emergency repairs roadside and got to b and q to get some cable ties and gorilla tape.

Got me home.

Swapped the exhaust end strap from the bandit onto the 1250 ready for tomorrow.

Ordered new strap online.

All good.

Struggled to start it after the engine swap.

Ended up stripping it down again. After 3 hours I found i'd left the side stand switch loose and it had vibrated off.

Reorganised the shed, making slightly more room for the bikes. So rolled them out and rolled them in again.
The scooter needed a bit of a dust... Must start using that more and get a topbox fitted to it.

I recently got my CX500's forks and calipers back from powder coating and today I finished reassembling them. What a bastard it was to get the fork caps on with the new progressive springs. It's finally starting to look vaguely bike shaped again. Wheels are away for painting along with the final drive gear casing. I have to enlarge a hole on the rear engine case to fit a new water pump seal as the old size isn't available anywhere now (0.7mm difference). Hoping to get that done later in the week along with the rest of the seals I want to change so I can get the engine bolted back up.

Checked the oil level, because I got it in my head it was in danger or running dry. It wasn't. It's just making its usual noises.

Thread locked the bolts on the mirror risers. I added a rubber washer between the riser and the handle bars to damp the vibrations at high speeds a bit. It works, but the downside is that since I added them at the weekend, the risers have come loose and swung about on no less than 3 occasions. If the threadlock doesn't work I'll take the washers out and live with the inability to see much over 60mph

Had to get my rear tyre plugged. A large bolt decided to mate with it while on the airfield at Henstridge. Did a string repair to get me home but wanted a proper repair done.

The people at the airfield were really insistent it couldn't possibly have been from the airfield as it's brushed for foreign objects but I can pinpoint exactly where on the airfield it happened on my helmet cam. So Middle Finger to whoever they pay to brush the place.

So invoice them, brah. They won't do it properly until it costs them more to skimp on it.

Sometimes, FOD does turn up on airfields. Otherwise, why would you do FOD plods at all?
In the RAF, it is certainly not something that is skimped on. Lives are at risk (money is at stake). Can't speak for civvies, but I would have thought it'd be even more important to them.

Amusing as that would be, I'll take it on the chin. It's the only decent bike event nearby and I don't want to be the cockwomble that causes the owners to withdraw it.

£20 off some random guy for his string repair kit. £10 for the proper repair job afterward. So got away cheaply.

It did strike my carbon fibre hugger a few times kind of wrecking it but I'm not forking out £150 for a new one. I can live with cosmetic issues.

Decided to adjust some things, and feck it, take the tank bag as well for the sheer convenience. So a second test load required, especially to ensure the sat nav can be adjusted to clear the tank bag:

https://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b550/nicknicklxs/DSCN8716_zpszcymy0aj.jpg

There is one small problem the Kriega luggage causes on my bike: when the straps are tightened, they try to pull the seat up against the catch, putting a strain on it, so I've used a couple of extra straps from the top bag to the grab rails, just to relieve that pressure a bit.

Added some sun protection too Laughing

Must be hell on the aerodynamics though.

Actually, a £1 shop umbrella is one of my daily-carries. I think Ted Simons recommended always having an umbrella. Or Che Guevara. Or that guy from The Jewel of the Nile.
