Been messing about at work designing and CNC'ing a bracket on the router to replace the stock dials and display on my 1982 GSX400F with a nice little speedo from Daytona and some individual LEDs to show gear position, neutral, indicators etc...

Lots of tweaking the Perspex prototype but getting there. Turns out the casting for the yokes isn't exactly symmetrical.
I will move the ignition key at a later date but at the moment it's going to stay put.

The final one will be made from powder coated aluminium.

Kind of happy with it I think. Next step is to cut it out of the aluminum. 4mm T6 aluminum to be precise.

Wouldn't even bother with the mushroom, I've had 3 strings in a tyre and just left them. So long as it's not leaking.

bought a dynojet kit for the gpz900 as ive not been having much luck with rejetting with keihin jets.. its still epicly lean.

Looked inside the dynojet box and compared the contents to some parts i have as spares.. turns out i already have a spare set of drilled slides and a 4 matching shortened slide springs.. bugger.

Put more cable ties on the thundercat fairing Laughing

Instead got the front off the CBR6 to fit new fairing bracket. The original is rusty and probably bent.

Went to fit the float bowl gaskets which arrived from Wemoto during the week, only to find they're a really poor fit and a waste of time. Poor quality control. I should have known better. Buy cheap, pay twice. Kawasaki originals now ordered. Shame because I'd been looking forward to getting on with the task this weekend.

gpz900: started rebuilding carb set #2 in case the play in the linkage on set #1 was causing shite.. whilst everything was off i ran a compression test (with some oil down the bores)
1:120
2:170
3:180
4:180

So it was cylinder 1 after all causing the low speed running and popping issues Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad following that i tested the piston heights against each other and piston 1 is 3mm or so lower than the others. I'm guessing a bit of hydro lock was involved under previous ownership Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad ultimately one or more of the rods are bent

Thundercat: Put the fairing on properly and removed the cable ties that were holding it all together. It looks half decent now.. from a distance

On Monday I got some nearly new Michelin PR4s fitted for £100 at Russ Tyres in Portsmouth.

On Tuesday I serviced the front brake caliper and changed the pads, then failed to dismantle the leaky forks for a rebuild and ordered some new long reach allen head sockets off amazon that aren't made of cheese.

Yesterday I started myself off easy changing the oil and filter then attempted a job that I've always avoided; checking and adjusting valve clearances.

First of all doing this on the Honda Bros 400 involves removing the tank, carbs and partially removing the radiator. Then it's still a mission to remove the front rocker cover. But aside from all of that I somehow managed to monumentally screw it up and now my bike sounds like a tractor. Laughing

After some research I think it's because I only used the marks on the flywheel to get the engine in the right position. I should have also checked where the piston was in its stroke. Hopefully I haven't completely buggered my engine; I should have to some time to try again tomorrow.

Only time I've attempted valve clearances was on an engine at college, and it never ran again after (the lecturers couldn't get it running either). Now I leave them Very Happy

Unfortunately because the Bros is such a dick to get apart, it costs a good few hundred pounds to get it done. They haven't been checked for around 10-12k miles so I thought I best do it. I have no idea how far out they were now though. Laughing

Fitted a new front brake light switch, yesterday.
Today got a fresh MOT, with no advisories, for my 35 year old, built from a box of bits, Honda XL125.

I am NOT disappoint! Mr. Green

Good job! Not sure I'd be brave enough to try that...

The Honda Bros 400 now has valve clearances that are correct. I'm quite pleased with myself. Mr. Green

Although now I've ridden it, I might have to get some more Brembo sintered pads for it. The EBC normal ones are a bit rubbish. Maybe they just need wearing in though.

Also ordered myself some nasty chinese pod filters. The rubbers that connect the airbox to the carbs have completely had it, and I can't seem to source new ones.

Back in April, I was headed to Sheffield to see a friend and after about 3 miles the bike chugged and chugged and eventually died. I managed to get it home by pinning the throttle and slipping the clutch to keep the bastard running.
Turns out that the little foam filters in the airbox had disintegrated and been sucked into the top of the carbs, thus hindering the movement of the lifters/jet needle.

I've been running these little secondary air-ports filterless for a while and I don't think that ought to continue long term.

So I bought some foam filters from ebay which were meant for some sort of old-skool Honda (as opposed to using a washing up sponge as some people had suggested online.

Airbox top off:
https://image.ibb.co/g3ZGba/WP_20170812_14_04_57_Pro.jpg

Use air filter as a stencil to cut around:
https://image.ibb.co/n9KhGa/WP_20170812_14_05_57_Pro.jpg

https://image.ibb.co/maLpwa/WP_20170812_14_07_37_Pro.jpg

Use one cutout as second stencil:
https://image.ibb.co/kXdbba/WP_20170812_14_08_47_Pro.jpg

Cut hole for little tubey thing:
https://image.ibb.co/bNFdpv/WP_20170812_14_11_22_Pro.jpg

Ta daaaaaa!:
https://image.ibb.co/fm1Uwa/WP_20170812_14_12_34_Pro.jpg

And while I was there I thought i'd have a butchers inside the top of the only accessible carb to see what shite was there. A little bit, but not enough for me to care.
https://image.ibb.co/hW9tNF/WP_20170812_14_16_37_Pro.jpg

All done and a test ride is imminent. Naturally i'm expecting a 10bhp gain and for the front wheel to only be touch the tarmac during corners.
