Changed the air filter for the first time in 30k miles, obligatory old/new filter pic below.

It's a job I've been putting off as the official Kawasaki method involves dismantling half the bike but in fact can be done in about 30 mins.

Hi

Not directly to the bike, but put up another set of shelves in the garage to store parts on. I can now get at the bottom of a stack of crates without having to move the rest first. I have 2 more sets to put up, although not sure where one will go, and I need to move the compressor to make space for the other set

All the best

Katy

New tyres front and back on 1250

Front tyre went flat overnight

Took bandit to work that day instead as couldn't be arsed to duck about with the tyre.

Battery died 5 miles in

Limped home using the portable battery jump pack linked directly to the battery

Took the car 😞

On the return journey car picked up a screw in the sidewall

Swapped batteries and took the bandit

Realized bandit had no MOT

Took bandit for MOT 2 days ago - failed on suspension bushes

Replaced suspension bushes

Passed MOT

Sorted tyre on 1250

Put space saver on car

Vowed that next bike isn't going to be a Suzuki.

sad to see GPZ go, but felt a genuine gladness at seeing my little red Honda again Embarassed

offered up a disclock on Honda, fits, never used them before borrowed Kawasaki, but will buy some

Then double up the tie downs and bungies on all of the motorcycle covers, cos theres-a-storm-a-coming Confused or, it's going to be a bit windy anyway

Follow up post from getting new tyres 25th Aug Michelin pr4 front and rear
Got the the 30quid reward back into my bank for buying 2 tyres happy bunny there
Approx 3 tanks of petrol paid for by Michelin
Also bike has just got better and better as tyres have scrubbed in a bit
So very pleased with my tyre choice and would recommend them

Usual caveats apply in that I am no expert on tyres or bikes

Managed to remove carb.

Someone has decided not to replace the seal on the inlet manifold, and use instant gasket. Carb had loads of shit and the usual fluff coating the float bowl. Pulled jets, main was part clogged with instant gasket.

Hopefully snag a replacement seal tomorrow as anything in my box of seals/o-rings are too small.

Fitted a new rear tyre to the 700 Deauville. Stripped various parts of the swingarm, cleaned them up with a flapper disc, greased and reassembled.

Free'd up the centre stand so it now retracts freely.

Cleaned inlet manifold off. It was bad. Couldn't snag a seal, so Instant Gasket was used until a new one arrives.
https://i.imgur.com/ohpA56bl.jpg

Managed to get one of the last 2 seized screws out. Utter bollock to move, was rocking the bike with the amount of force needed to get it out. Last one will need to be cut off I suspect. Replaced with stainless bolt, as were other corroded fasteners I encountered. This meant I could now get at the airbox, and the filter was surprisingly clean, almost no oil on it.

Cleaned carb, but discovered why I had been smelling petrol - float bowl seal is toast and had been weeping. Can't find a seal because I don't know the carb model, the lettering stamped on gives me nothing. A new carb is only £25, apparently a Lexmoto uses the same one, so that's ordered, Did try to run her, but she just revved up on, despite slackening off the throttle cable. Not sure what's going on, but will check the cabling to the slide, I was iffy about the fitting of it when it went back together.

Ordered tyres - very little choice in the stupid rear size.

Applied yet more rust inhibitor.

Last ride and early end of the season Crying or Very sad Thumbs Down

Inevitable happened. The alternator in my Fireblade is dead.
I thought maybe previous owner replaced it (I think this part was recalled and replaced under warranty), because I've had no problem with it since I bought the bike. But no.. As long as the bike was running it was all fine, once I stopped the engine and tried to start it again, there was nothing left in MotoBatt battery fitted. I'm charging the battery now, but there is a chance it's fked now too.

Fettled a new mounting bracket for the Enfield's reg/rec to replace the one that cracked on the run today. Apparently it's very common.

Well, today I wiped a puddle of gearbox oil from under the MZ. There are more leaks than I thought. I re-sealed the gearbox output shaft recently and I thought I was done with it, as I could actually see the oil leaking through there.

It was like a computer game, everything in my peripheral vision was a blur, like looking down a tunnel.

172 was my previous best, this didnt feel faster untill I came to slow down.

Not today but yesterday.....

Serviced it, fitted K&N air filter then took It to JHS racing in Bristol who did a remap of the power commander and set up the suspension for me.

Just need a new rear tyre now.

Fuck me sideways it's a different bike. £220 well spent.

Pulled tank, applied more rust converter (See a theme here?), checked 1-2 throttle cable, re-seated and re-routed that, made sure bodged seal works... it doesn't. Revs like crazy on start, can get it to drop to normal by playing with the choke. Won't rev at all though, so I'm suspecting the inlet manifold seal isn't sealing.

Proper seals located and ordered.
