All done, just visible is one of the blanks. Top box looks huge against the bike but it is an optical illusion taken from behind (oo-er)

Edited to add pic side view

Gave it a home.

Fairly impressed with the quality of it. Just need to secure it down properly when the old man gives me my drill back.

New friction discs & stronger springs in the clutch, new shorter cable. Much more bite, but it still won't go faster than 20.

Valve clearances tomorrow, then check fuel mixture, then see if I have a manifold leak. If all that fails, It's getting chucked down a fucking deep mineshaft.

Yesterday technically, finish work early on Fridays so began the strip down (the CB has an oil leak somewhere around the head, possible missing seal).

Not bad for 3 hours work, these old bikes are a piece of pish to work on, same time on my Street Triple would have seen me remove the tank and maybe the SAIS crap before even starting with dropping the engine!

Found the likely culprit for the oil leaking out the exhaust header
https://i.imgur.com/dOqwl2Y.jpg

And changed the air filter
https://i.imgur.com/gcoZtcn.jpg

Oil change and tyre to sort and potentially some wiring bodgery then it can be ridden.

Yep, all the fingers were clogging the holes in the filter. Can't be good for air flow.

Added oil and coolant after the recent water pump rebuild. Leak started from the clutch cover. New gasket should sort that tomorrow.

The most productive part of today took all of 3 minutes. I fixed a farked spark plug thread.

Cylinder #4 spark plug on the 900 would not torque up. The bastid just span around taunting me. REALLY not wanting to take the engine out, remove the head and helicoil it i considered using a regular m12x1.25 tap.. the problems with this are swarf getting into the cylinder as well as the tap only being 3, maybe 4 inches long at best.

Cue the discovery and purchase of a new tool. A reverse tap. Works like a regular tap only you can do it from the bottom of the head first where there is more likely to be decent thread still present.

Had it sorted in 3 minutes and the thing brings the swarf out with it!! I taped some 4mm ID tube the the hoover pipe and sucked out anything in the chamber, just in case.

Genuinely didn't know such a thing existed.. Best thing i've bought this year without a doubt

Snapped the clutch cable.

Luckily for me it was while paddling it into the garage for the night.
New cable on order. Was considering a bodge but I've just fixed the car with my new mig welder so I'll be driving that for the next few days.

Replaced the front wheel bearings on the Thundercat. The old ones were still in seemingly perfect condition but a quick pop of the plastic cover showed no grease in there.. Both span freely though which isnt bad considering they've done 47k miles.

Rears left to do.

Stripped the carbs off the 900r to put dyno jet stage 1 jets in rather than the stage 3. As the recent rubber restore has worked i should now be able to fit the airbox without much of an issue Smile

ER6F

Stripped out the screen and clock surround. The 2 top mounts for the headlight have fatigue failed so a few holes and a few cable ties will keep it all ok until the new bits turn up.

NT700 Deauville

While replacing the rear tyre the exhaust needed to come off. Unfortunately the bolt going into the frame sheared so need drilling out but to do this the exhaust needed removing. Removing the exhaust two of the cover bolts sheared so they needed drilling.

So drilled out and rethreaded the frame bolt, drilled out one of the cover bolts no problem, the other became a massacre. Now need to weld a square nut in place of the massacred one on the exhaust.

Changed the front tyre, lowered the front end by 10mm by raising the forks and fitted gaiters.

Made up a set of spotlight mounts for it a few weeks back and test fitted a spotlight to them.

Planned on getting the bike washed and polished today and repair some flaked paint off the chainguard.

Until I forgot I gave my bikestands away a few months ago and forgot to upgrade them with a new alloy pair. Sad

Ran it for a bit today checking everything over, checking for any oil leaks on floor I might of missed upon viewing and check perishables a bit better.

Realised baffle is still in and is already loud, so might be naughty and pop that out for a bit Very Happy

Re-routed throttle cable - No difference.

Swapped out the brand new fuel line on a nasty suspicion - bastarding thing works. Shining a light through the line, and the ID looks like a fucking toblerone. 2mm maybe at the narrow points.

Tomorrow is tyres and bearings.
