This is an '02 bike. The tyre is pre '00 as it's 3 digit. It's probably never been changed Shocked

2.7mm at centre, plenty of tread left .... but...
https://i.imgur.com/6HqU1jAl.jpg

... this may be why it wouldn't hold pressure for more than a fortnight... cracked with age.

Heidenau rear, Maxxis front now fitted.

24,000KM, 15K-ish miles. It's a Cruiser, and like so many lasses at the bar, has a fat arse and no weight up front. Twisted Evil

Only had one thing to do, change a headlight bulb......

However I had to remove 6 screws, move the instrument panel then pull
down the light unit. Then the fun of removing the rubber doobree,
unclipping the clip, remove and install bulb and replace clip in place.

Then put it all back together without breaking anything.....first time I've
ever changed a headlight bulb on a bike with a fancy ultra modern headlight
unit..

took me 15 minutes, I would not like to do that on the road....

Pulled footrest/brake hanger, de-gunked 15yrs of shit that was stopping the pedal from returning properly, squirted some cutting oil down the cable, and adjusted brake to suit.
Put phone/GPS mount on.
Slapped more Matt black on the "shiny" bits I missed last time, shiny being used in a very loose sense of the word.
Added a tank protector just to annoy people.
Ordered some fuel-proof 2.5mm rubber for the fuel cap seal.

She should be ready for her next MOT then.

fitted the newly rejuvenated airbox rubbers into the airbox and fitted that. Squeezed a different set of carbs(recently rebuilt by me) in and spent an hour getting everything to line up properly. Fitted a K&N into the airbox.

plumbed up the temp fuel line on the 900r. Stock pilot jets, float heights but everything else stage 1 dynojet rather than the previous janky overfuelled stage 3 setup using velocity stacks and foam socks.

Well, what do you know. Fired straight up and had a solid idle. I have been dealing with a completely farked set of carbs the entire time not to mention the stage 3 hassles. All cylinders are now running within 10deg of each other Cool Cool

Balanced the new set, hooked up the fuel tank and went for a ride. No stumble anymore but there is a bit of hesitation if i crack the throttle quickly in 4th at 20mph (i know, why would you do that anyway)

Pulls amazingly in all gears and buzzes all the way to 'sorry judge' speeds.

Epic bike <3

Stop 'n' Go'ed the front trye. it only has about 1000 miles on it but it got nailed on the way home last week.

I did the repair last night and rode it in today, seems to be holding air perfectly.

just gone over 11,000 miles on the CRF250L, and I put a new sticker on it, and I cleaned the chain and lubed it. The bike looks like a 2 wheeled mudpie right now, but at least the chain is clean, and the bit of plastic with the sticker on.

Got sawdust all over it whilst cutting a heavy duty circular template for my bricklayer to lay bricks around.
Why I never thought to close the shed door is beyond me but I'm having a busy week.

I've made a number of small changes to my Tuono since picking it up a couple of months back. I'm aware it's unlikely to ever really blend in (!) but it was a bit too colourful for me. I'm quite pleased with how a few small changes have toned it a down a bit.

Black RSV4 belly pan
New RHS OEM side fairing (the other one was in bad nick underneath the decals that I removed)
New levers (Brembo brake, Bad Dog clutch)
Rizoma front brake fluid reservoir
Tech spec tank grips
replacement original nose cone decals
Removal of miscellaneous stickers.

Also cleaned it within an inch of its life then took it oput in the rain and it's filthy again.

New tyres for Christmas - this thing eats rears alive.

Some before and afters;

Replaced indicators with new second hand OEM ones. £10 each, which I suppose is better than the £35 (each) they want for new ones, but still a lot for things that blink occasionally.

I briefly tried the remaining working LED indicators on the rear, thinking they might look good with the brake light but they weren't flashing properly. I was actually getting weird flash rates with the bulb indicators until I connected all four.

I pulled the rear wheel off the Pan so it can get a new tyre tomorrow. That's the third new one on the back this year, plus it started the year on reasonably fresh rubber.

It was due an oil change too, so I decided to do that now rather than tomorrow. Annoyingly, I had a K&N KN-204C filter on it (maybe one of the faulty batch - but it's chrome and doesn't appear to have any date code on it to check). Normally I use HiFlo, but got this in a package deal with the Motul oil.

Why is that annoying? Well, I always fit filters by hand and in most applications can remove by hand too - but the access on the Pan is limited to get my hand around with sufficient grip to remove it once it's been on for a few thousand miles, so I normally remove it using one of those socket tools that fits the end of the filter then put the new one on by hand.

The K&N has a "convenient" nut on the filter and no standard flats on the end. As soon as I put any torque onto the nut with a ratchet, it ripped off and dangled by one weld. This wasn't me swinging on it - it had been fitted by hand and it didn't feel like I'd got up to the normal torque that'd break the seal. I couldn't get my hand around it enough to grip well, couldn't use my normal filter removal tool as the K&N has no flats (and no access to put it on and hammer it into place), couldn't get in with my boa due to the centre stand being in the way.

I had to put the back wheel back on so I could put it onto the side stand to get the boa onto the filter, which then spun off quite easily. That's the last time a K&N goes on my bikes - the Bandit has one currently (same deal on oil and filter), I hope that comes off OK.

Kicked the gixer, considered selling it.

It had a new battery, reg/rec and generator in April, I took it across Europe July/August and it broke down on the way home in France and had another brand new battery, reg/rec and generator (plus the cost of transport home) and now the fucker won't start again. Nothing. No lights, no fuel pump prime, not even a glimmer of a headlight.

What an arsehole.
