Made a start on the duke. Was in two minds whether to get the wheels painted...decided to carry out 1 last 'touch-up' bodge job.

Making a start on the wheel bearings (y'know I jet washed that paving 4 months ago FFS!).

I remembered this bolt from last time.

https://i.imgur.com/gfVSz8Y.jpg

So that's new bolts all round then.

Thankyou Brembo for providing a clouting-it-out notch.

The offending bearing.

Lightweight alloy spacer.

Should add 5mph. Mr. Green

Heat to get them in and out.

Sexy spacer ...(almost forgot to put it back).

https://i.imgur.com/ZY2BNPM.jpg

Yeah I'll admit it...This pic gives me a twinge.

https://i.imgur.com/1YgOApD.jpg

Waiting for bolts is bobbins...so cleaned them.

Only 2hrs daylight left so going out on the other bike for a play.

Removed the annoyingly hard to see LED indicators from the Bandit 1200. Fitted a nice new set of bulb indicators. Thumbs Up

A job I've been putting off; replacing the seat lock. Had a bit of a job getting the old one off, I dunno why Triumph make it so difficult, you can pop the seat off in seconds with very little force Rolling Eyes

I'd rather remove the cause of the problem if I can. The Rim is beyond sanding and needs blasting, which is fine, I can do that in work, but I need the bike to get to work...

Passed the 28k mark on the odometer. Might treat her to some Shell fancy petrol on the next fill up.

*edit* - casually dropping 1k off the mileage. Like that bike place in peterborough Wink

Got rid of the brick sized indicators and fitted some mini ones. reduced drag factor must be good for +eleventy mph.

I think, for it's age, they got the styling of the 929 pretty well spot on. How the hell did they come up with those monstrous standard indicators and think they looked good on the bike?

What amazes me more is that it's lasted 17 years before anybody has changed them!

Started on the thundercats prewinter service. Took the Fuel tank off, turned the tap off and set it aside.

10 minutes later the tank was empty and my carpet was saturated.
Bugger.

Another job I've been putting off, changing the fuel tank lock. It went fine until I realised some of the holes were arranged differently, resulting in:

Evil or Very Mad Gonna see if I can find another bolt to cut down. Also when putting the battery tray back I found two loose gromits and I can't for the life of me workout where they came from Laughing

Dragged the petrol soaked carpet out of the garage as it wasn't evaporating and replaced it with some of those Sealey lock together mats from Halfords.. temp solution but better than the fire risk carpet.

The petrol had soaked through and started to eat away the paint on the garage floor Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Stupid issue to have but an issue nonetheless. Tap repair kit has been ordered but will take a few days to arrive. Its an on/off tap so it doesn't matter too much right now

Added Oxford heated grips, a K&N filter and a new fuel filter to the Thundercat.
Tonight will see the rear wheel bearings being replaced as the rear wheel stops randomly when i spin it even with the caliper off Thumbs Up

Because the daily is out of action i had to take the Gpz Cool

Need to buy my guardian angel a case of beer.

Continued the Thundercats pre-winter going over last night by removing the rear wheel to change the bearings. Keep in mind that the rear wheel span freely up until Monday/Tuesday night when i noticed it wouldn't spin a full revolution without stopping.
I genuinely check my wheels every day.. tyres mostly but i give the wheel a shake to check for play. There was no weird noises or anything like that to hint at an issue.

What a bearing should look like.

What mine looked like.

It has started eating into the wheel face. There were bits of metal in and underneath the cush rubbers... I didn't use any force at all to remove the bearing... The metal covers you see are how they fell out, all mangled. The sprocket carrier spacer was all that was keeping the ball bearings in the outer cage..

No pics of bearing gore showing up for me.

Figure out the Reg/Rec was toast.
After I fixed (bodged) the also toast connection.

There's something fucky with the rear light. Normal illumination is fine, but brakes no longer illuminate the 2nd filament. New bulb didn't cure it.

Brakes and more bearings today.

Cleaning kit; Paraffin, hot water and some mucoff.

Plenty left.
https://i.imgur.com/wf5L0gV.jpg

Original pistons and seals (17yrs) Brembo make exceedingly good brakes.
https://i.imgur.com/gnqGU65.jpg

About as clean as I can get without a complete stripdown.

I'll be passing on the pot of copper grease to my yet unborn grandchildren.
https://i.imgur.com/HXNNtEt.jpg?1

Well doesn't that look lovely. Neutral
https://i.imgur.com/DQRN5x8.jpg

Ad break.

Bloody adverts. Rolling Eyes

The rear wheel bearings were uneventful.

On to the sprocket...which either chrome or imgur scales incorrectly.

https://i.imgur.com/OTUCntV.jpg

Knock 'em in.
https://i.imgur.com/IIrCMHw.jpg

Circlip in and time for a brew. i.e splurge photos all over BCF.
https://i.imgur.com/zFUX0zA.jpg

So...question is do I clean and paint (bodge) the rear wheel..clean the brakes and reassemble then bleed the front/rear/clutch.....[shudders]

No...It'll keep for another day. The sun is out so tools away and quick spin on the MV. Thumbs Up

Bit of a cheat clean

Rinse dirt off
Spray with wonder wheels type cleaning stuff
Agitate stubborn bits
Have a fag
Rinse off

Actually looks better than I expected considering took 10 minutes

Also ACF50'ed everywhere. (And ran it for 15 minutes to burn off the excess to stop the "Is your bike on fire?" questions at lights on my commute tomorrow. )
