Managed to get the old tacho drive gear out of the casing. Initially thought I'd have to make up an extractor screw, but not needed. Cut the gear in two, pulled the two halves out then popped the spade end back in and gave it a tap with a small hammer and out popped the seal and thrust washer.

Now just waiting for the new gear but tomorrow I will take the oil pump off and clean the filter screen, also poke around in the bottom of the crankcase with a magnet to check that there are no gear teeth bits in there.

Had new Bridgestone T30 Evo's fitted!

Rear was squaring rapidly & front felt rough (jittery & slow to turn/lean & a effort to cross white lines/cats eyes). Plus they were old.

Removed the oil pump, stripped and checked it, no damage or excess wear. The mesh screen was a bit mucky, and did a good job of holding back the tiny slivers of the tacho gear teeth.

Just waiting for the gear to arrive, should be back on the road by the weekend.

Fitted Oxford heated grips (straight to battery, relay to be added at later date). Weirdly it was the non-throttle side that was really tight. Seemed a bit weedy but I only gave them a couple of minutes, then got paranoid about draining battery.

Monday will be the true test

I look forward to having marginally smaller blocks of ice for hands when I arrive.

Also lost the end for the tyre pressure gauge Evil or Very Mad

Re-Bodged exhaust, but as the hole is at right up against the falnge/collar it's probably going to blow out again fairly soon.

Jet washed Honda, a special extra sticky kinda clay mud yesterday and it took over 7inutes.

I then cleaned chain and lubricated, and made a bit of a hash of adjusting the chain. Phoned a friend. Did not help that last time I had wheel off I put guide spacer in backwards, and that adjustment bolts were seized got shown how to do it properly, and cleaned spacers. We had to take wheel off and use a socket set to free them. :-/

Dented my tank!

My 5 year old muffs were wearing out. My hands had gradually worn away some of the rubber sleeves that go over the bar ends and they would come loose on the motorway. So I purchased some new Tucano Urbano R363-X muffs because they could be screwed to the bar ends and went about fitting them.

Turns out that with a washer, the rubber end cap and a little spacer I made up to stop the rubber sleeve fouling the throttle, the bar end weight screw was too short. I need to find something longer and there was nothing appropriate in my tub of bolts.

So I decided to go down the path of using the supplied zip ties to clamp the rubber sleeves around the bar end weights on both sides. I’d already removed the bar end weights and they were jammed into the rubber sleeves of the muffs. I just needed to pop them out and reattach them to the bike before trying the zip ties.

So I stood facing my bike, holding one of the muffs and carefully squeezed the rubber sleeve to pop the loose end weight out. Well it came out like a bullet, nearly got a hand to it as it flew through the air. Could’ve hit the seat, or a foot peg, or even a bit of tough old plastic, but no, of course it had to spank off the tank leaving a neat little dent……. Bollocks!

Center of the picture, just at the top of the reflection of the tree….

Meh! Put it down to the scars of a London commuter. It’s hardly immaculate anymore and with the excessive mileage it’s not exactly going to affect the value… … because there is none. Laughing

Cleaned and lubed chain (takes forever now the weather has turned, making sure each roller is turning freely) - decided life is too short and ordered a chain oiler.

Checking front wheel noticed some binding. Pads off, caliper out, break cleaner, tooth brush and rag around the back of the pistons. Lightly greased piston sides and pushed them back in. Nice free running wheel again Thumbs Up

Tracked down weird intermittent problem with front right indicator. little metal tab on the back wasn't making good contact with the back of the bulb. Nothing a little bending won't solve.

rode it with heated grips for the first time....about 100yards down the road. Fuel line got kinked when putting the tank on yesterday Embarassed

Heated grips though! Wub Once the hand guards arrive, winter riding might not be such a chore.

Rotated the gear lever one tiny spline to bring it up slightly. I now have a nice pair of boots to use instead of my old shoes. When returning to biking a few years ago after a 22 year gap, I couldn't find a pair of boots which I could use, due to severe arthritis in my left ankle. I had this when I was last on bikes prior to 1993, but the ankle was then not as huge as it is now and I was able to use boots. Just bagged myself a pair of leather/goretex Oxtars for a tenner from FB Marketplace. They are used but excellent soles and the zips on both boots perfect, also no scuffs etc. The important bit is that they have been well waxed regularly and the ankles are really flexible - just what I needed. However, as I only have limited rotation of my left foot, I needed to get the lever in position where I could get the foot under it. Over the last couple of years back on two wheels I have got used to having to lift the whole lower leg to change up lol. Job's a good 'un.

Stared at the Zed in disbelief after filling it up. You've done what mpg?! Good god I haven't even caned it yet. Pff, I don't have a good relationship with gas mileage.... Rolling Eyes

Nothing at all on the bike today - or yesterday - or for the last 5 months. And that pattern is set to go on for a month or so until I get all the bits/ spares/ paperwork together and put the bike up for sale.

Lung cancer has struck and there is no way I can now safely ride. Sad, sad, sad but there is no cure for Asbestosis and I can only hope that someone else can in future get as much fun out of riding as I did in the past

Not a common bike but mint condition and trivial mileage. I post an advert when I make the final decision

Fitted cheapo fog lights - actually really happy with them! £9.50! Obvs from China originally - but shipped from brum.

5 day turn around. Result.

Added bonus I didn’t know about.

They come with a completely illegal (yet fun) modulating setting. 😂👍
