Changed out the rear brake pads, admired how dirty the bike is, shut the garage doors and watched "Alan Partridge: Why, When, Where, How and Whom?" to take my mind off how much cleaning it's going to need.

You've got a good solid 3 months before you need to worry about cleaning.

Well the last couple of days been cleaning up parts of the bike... The amount of oily crud caked into the front sprocket housing was shocking... Thats all clear now.

Ive also changed the break pads and tried to clean up the front brake calipers... I screwed that up :/ Scratched one of the pistons.

So ive ordered a new one and a whole set of new seals... Going to take them apart propperly and give them a good deep clean and redo.....................

New Dunlop Roadsmart 3 fitted to the rear.

The previous tyre had loads if tread left but, had squared off quite significantly.

The difference in handling was immediately very noticeable.

Fitted new shocks - Twunts sent the wrong ones, and ebay to be fair, refunded me instantly. They didn't want them sending back, so I bunged them on with a bit of massaging and cutting down of A2 stainless bolts.

New LED indicators - can't really get much worse then the huge old chrome things on there.

Attempted to fit new exhaust but thwarted removing old one. Will wait till i get access to an impact gun. 15yr old 6mm cap heads are an absolute swine to remove... who knew?

Repatched and re-wrapped old exhaust.

Stuck it on a charger as apparently the ECU won't allow it to start if the voltage drops below 12.6. Beginning to piss me off it is.

Ordered some new brake pads for the back brake. They have worn pretty fast though I have been carrying a lot of fat bitches on the back in recent weeks.

Pad through to the metal? Living up to the bodytard moniker well then. Blow up dolls 'aint that heavy, so it must have been all those mince pies.

Picked up a replacement seat that's a little more comfortable than the stock one.

Something is sticking, plenty of meat on one of them.

Today I reglued and chemical metalled the front mudguard which has cracked in a few places, then did extra plastic weld on the outside.

Aint pretty, but I'm hoping more effective than my last try with just superglue.

You've got a stuck piston on one side, likely from all the shit built up on them that you so proudly harp on about not bothering to clean. And since you've let it go metal on metal I'd wager your disc is fucked now too.

The FZS600 rear caliper is notorious for being shit.

I can't be arsed stripping it to be honest with you. It gets soaked in a bath of salt water due to the underslung design and god knows what else flung at it when I flick the jet engines on and hit mach 3.

The picture is deceiving there isn't as much material left on the pad as it will have you believe. Also the disc will pass an MOT therefore it isn't fucked.

I took my CX500 out on the road for the first time today. 2 years of off-and-on work on the rebuild, her first time on the road in 32 years. Just a quick run around the block during a brief interlude between spells of heavy rain. Went well, the initial smokiness I was concerned about has subsided and she handles better than expected. Some minor niggles to iron out and final carb tuning/balancing is still to be done but I'm happy so far!

You got fully geared up for a test ride round the block? I would have gone in my overalls.

When I fitted the new engine in my FZS I went to the lake district to enjoy the fruits of my hard work. Just shows though what a weekend warrior is there isn't a blemish on your gear.

Also that hi vis. Puke

I sewed some vinyl over the two vented panels on my a* leather jacket. I disliked them becuase vented and because white... Grey with dirt.

This is the only place my jacket would leak in the heaviest storm rain, swimming. I would still arrive less wet than the others with textiles. However a day last week was unpleasant. Quite pleased as it is seamless and looks better than when new.

Put on the replacement seat, couldn’t get it to click into place, pulled off the rubber cushion things and swapped them for my stock seat and fitted it correctly. A 1 minute job became a ten minute job while I worked out what the problem was. What a twat.
