Finally managed to get he crud of the worst of the crud encrusted bikes today ..

It's taken 2 washes with Dirt Busters bio-degradeable bike wash, and water spray another day today with parafin to finish off. Then, lube teh cables etc, and finish off with a bit of acf

Anyhow, that's that bike ready until Autumn now, with a bit of luck.

Tried to fix the horn, but stumped on cause of fault, Bloody side panels need to be taken off to get to everything, why can't things be under the seat and easy to get to?

But then hopefully that's that for another 2 years.

I thought most people didn't bother for that very reason Smile

What Bluetooth thingy did you buy for TuneECU?

The first time I did it, after 10k miles, all exhaust were out and intakes on limit.
EX limit 0.325 to 0.375 and mine were 0.24
IN limit 0.10 to 0.20 and mine were all 0.10.

Cam timing, was out by half a tooth. Not terrible. But I'm happy I did it.

So yes, if Triumph (or whoever) does the first major service and you are sure they've done what they are supposed to. There it does look like the engine could truck on for 10k per 0.01mm of adjustment.
In theory I could leave it until 50k miles now and it might be ok.

BT device, typically Triumph does no appear to stick to standards. Many OBD2 devices don't work.
One that did was LYE Super Mini 1.5 ELM327

This one looks very similar, but I can't confirm it is.

Aquarium Y connector might work. Can shove the pointy ends from cable ties up there to help send the oil to places.

I went for a cable which I think you need if you want to change maps. I didn't realise the app was a tenner Confused so a cable solution is cheaper, if a bit less practical*. Interesting stuff, I'm fairly certain mine haven't ever been done, the bike (one previous owner) came with a single service receipt for the initial 500 mile oil change Neutral

*luckily I've inherited an old webbook for the job, using my widescreen laptop with an extension cord (f**ked battery) was getting a bit tedious

We have different versions of the same bike. Mine does not allow flashing of maps.

Cable option is only available to Windows users (for my bike) if I also buy Dealer Tune. I don't use Windows.

Plus, I think I only paid £2.99 for the app.

Anyway, is what it is.

Better to fail on wheel bearings than have a wheel bearing fail.

Tested some soft panniers out on it. I'm off for a week at the end of the month and fancy a few nights out in the middle of nowhere.

Made heat-shield for the exhaust to stop the pannier getting toasty.

Wired up the electric door in the garage with the bike in. Now when it's nice enough weather for me to want to take the bike I can do so without faffing around with keys. Annoyingly there's no good way to put an internal door through to a garage so I have to go outside first. Iife's hard.

Removed the rounded screw head holding the fairing on, at long last.

Four pound red tool (from Asda) did the job of cutting a slot into the head nicely. Turns out Oxford locks are useful for something <sarcastic dance>.

Adjusted and lubed the chain again, this chain isn't lasting so well so I've
just ordered a new Swift chain kit... I can't really complain because this
current kit has got me through the wet and winter weather, just wished
it lasted a bit longer.

Ripped off the hideous stock exhausts and fitted a set of Arrows .... crashbungs and also the bagster tank bag cover i'd had for a while.

Nice taking something to bits that isn't 20 years old and brittle in all the wrong places.

This is what a properly oiled chain looks like. None of that grinding paste shmoo that yours is covered in. Chain was fitted 16k miles ago and has never been cleaned, just oiled.

.. finally some sun, and spare time today, meant I could remove teh last vestiges of winter from the other bikes, granted mainly the TR, as that's been on a few long runs since January, and was pretty well caked up with road salt & grime.

Still, cleaned up pretty well, and sorry to say, that, despite the bikes being either chinese, or korean, still have't become rust dust!!

The TR, which is pretty much my main workhorse..

https://cdn.bcf.44bytes.net/files/2018-03-13_16.12.21.jpg

The Mash, survived another winter ..

https://cdn.bcf.44bytes.net/files/2018-03-13_16.12.38.jpg

And... The ST7, although used relatively sparingly over winter ..

In fact, they've all cleaned up rather well !! Thumbs Up

Stripped the front end down, ready for the fitting of taper roller steering head bearings. I will also be replacing the split fork gaiters, which lasted all of 2 years but only cost a few quid.

Reluctantly left my bed to clean the caliper only for it to then start raining once I'd gotten all the bits into the tray so made my self a make shift tent and sat under the cover while going about the task. Smart thing would have been to: bolt the caliper on loose, put cover over and go inside but.. urm.. my brain-cells seem to take several hours of charge to find a solution to an issue.

WD-40 sprayed over the electrics (a recommendation on a separate thread of mine regarding non-starer issue) worked a treat for fixing, for now, the passing light not working so many thanks for that <thumbs-up.gif>.

More: snow, rain and freezing temperatures on the way makes me glad I haven't washed the bike yet even if seeing all the crud on the rear of the bike makes me want to cry.

The post winter checklist of things to clean and lube grows longer the more I look at it.
