Gave her the annual wash, swapped new pads into callipers, swapped the racetec front, checked the head bearings are still good. While I had the wheel off I gave the forks and engine cover a quick spray. Should be dry enough to reassemble after a quick cup of tea.

I was going to give the bike a good wash all around the innards before putting the fairing on... But timing for shopping and stuff kinda put that to tomorrow... But today I did get the "spare" tank out and started to work on the rusty hole and stuff...

Ok this is the spare tank that the dealer offloaded onto me... Ive desided to get this working... fix the hole and the majority of the rust so I can swap it round with the tank thats on my bike... The one with the paint thats gone crazy paving.

That tank has no rust issues but if I can get the other tank on the bike I can take the time to really do a good job on the paint work...

So sanded, acid washed... sanded acid washed... rinse repeat.... Anyway got it down to good metal made the hole bigger by removing the flakey rusty edges... and used the miracle that is JB Weld to fill the hole and skin the pitted metal...

I did my research the normal JB weld epoxy can be used on dry tanks... once its sets the petrol doesn't affect it and keeps it sealed.

Tomorrow ill sand it down smooth and deal with the rust underneath... Its not pretty... though i dont think there are any holes there.....

The pics.....

Fixing / using that is genuine madness. It holds petrol ( just ) you sit behind it ... replace it with a new one that isn't fucked by tinworm.

I'm a proper cheap git, but even I wouldn't touch that. It's just asking for trouble.

If not, I'll buy you one if you promise to use it religeously.

Now, where do I find some fireproof SD cards....

Most sdcards are pretty fireproof... well resistant. Also being inside the gopro thats an extra level of protection...

Honestly though. This is going to be fine. I cant afford to spend 100 or so for a new tank. This is a temporary one to use while i so up the main one...

Ill make sure its not leaking before i use it...

A considerable faf, lots of bits and pieces to get off before the old plugs came out.
First time I'd done bike plugs so it took a while, also the first time I'd had to unscrew the little silver contact cap.
Didn't know that until one of the old plugs came out.

It sure is. I miss having a single Smile

I'm debating an older pre '14 MT03 because I like big thumpy singles, but suspect having a crosser/motard is still a bad idea for me. Certainly easier to work on, but I wouldn't say cheaper as they tend to need working on more often.

Chain cleaned, lubed and tensioned.
Rear is losing air very slowly, takes about a week to get noticeably softer, so I think the valve may have a small leak.
Re-crimped a connection done with, presumably, pliers and low beam isn't going off over every bump as it started to do on the way home yesterday.

From memory it was an oil change every 6k (same as the striple) and filter every other year. Air filter/plug was annually on the MT-03 but that wasn't much of an expense. Valve clearances at 12k (again same as the striple).

I would actually have another MT-03 but I'd want to properly sort out the fueling issues. It's a lot of bike for the money if you find a good one for £16-1800. The build quality's certainty better than Triumph Rolling Eyes

Cheers for that. Newer bikes need a lot less fussing with, something I forget. I'm used to old air cooled clunkers.

New battery in the ZX6R and then a test ride after the recent fork rebuild with re-chromed stanchions. No more leaky fork seals. Very Happy

Found an unwelcome visitor in my tyre:

https://s14.postimg.cc/yasmjdr4x/IMG-20180416-_WA0029.jpg

https://s14.postimg.cc/4645y0trl/IMG-20180416-_WA0037.jpg

Which was then temporarily fixed with a string plug

https://s14.postimg.cc/o0q7k5oep/IMG-20180416-_WA0035.jpg

And then fitted with a proper plug at a garage

https://s14.postimg.cc/a71uv3o3l/IMG-20180417-_WA0014.jpg

inb4 bodytard sez he would have ridden around all year round in hot lava with the string plug

FretGrinder took me a while to notice what you meant. i kept looking at the cracks in the rubber and trying to figure out if they were part of the tread or just brilliantly placed cracks :p

Well today with my bike...

Gave it all a good clean and started putting the fairing back on. Just about ready to go back on the road. Need to repair one last bit of the fairing will do that tomorrow...

I also did some more work de-rusting the other petrol tank.

Green lane - singular, one lane, on my 2T. I'd planned to do a few in the short time I had to play, but ended up riding up and down and round and round really slow on the first one, trying to help someone who stopped me at the start of the lane to find their dog. We didn't find their dog. Sad

Oil check, and a chain lube on the vanvan.

Decided I wanted to make a wheel decal for the 701. Did a test trace of the rim, then designed it and used the vinyl plotter to make it. Came out pretty good but I need something to make the rim super clean as it had trouble sticking in parts. Also want to try it in floro yellow.

Fitted the carbon clutch / engine guards with the glue stuff (horrible) and pretty sure it's not going anywhere...

SV1000 died as i pulled into my driveway.

Could just about get it to start, but it would die if I revved it and it idled like a bag of spanners. Suspected everything from low fuel to a backfire blowing the throttle bodies off. I eventually noticed that it ran fine with the stand up, but like shit with the stand down.

A bit of head scratching later I found a loose relay under the seat that I thought was just for the indicators, but seems it also feeds the side stand cutout circuit. Pushed it back in and all is good.
