The starter motor failed on the M750. Easy enough? Nope, not a bit of it. Ducati engine design means that to remove the starter motor to replace the brushes you have to pull the left hand engine cover off. That in turn means dropping the oil (I was going to change the oil and filter anyway so no big deal on that). To get the cover off needs the use of a puller as the crankshaft end runs in a bearing set in the cover itself. Fortunately, they had the intelligence to put holes in the transfer gear so that the final fixing bolt for the starter could be accessed. What a faff.

Job mostly done, just the electrical connections to complete and then some new oil and we should be good to go.

Had to work it hard to see 3 figures, I wonder if it was tuned down for A2? Felt quite agricultural, almost like a diesel
bike, got a few pops and bangs out of it though. Laughing If I had to commute it would be better choice of bike than mine, nimble
in traffic and very flickable on the open road but the mirrors were rubbish because of the vibration in the upper
half of the revs. Not my cuppa tea style wise. Thought the colour LCD screen was cool though.

Ready to race>>>> Cool

What mode were you in? That engine's meant to be one of the best (singles) when it comes to vibrations but I guess it's all relative Smile

Someone with a blue car hit the back of her last night, and fucked off after picking her up with a lass that got out of the car to help. Faces easily identifiable, but reg plate not visible, even though other plates were. Neighbour they were visiting clammed right up when I asked him to tell them to come over and sort out with me, or who they were. I know what car it is, we'll have 'a chat' when they appear again. No point reporting it, all I'll get is a crime number.

Ordered the cheapest decent looking rear light I could find.
Put old, cracked number plate on. Ordered a new one.
The OEM plastic parts fared well, seems just the plate and light were casualties.

Rode her up the street - seems to turn okay, nothing fell or rattled off.

Whatever is default, didn't know what the D pad looking control on the left bar was for, wasn't shown so I didn't
mess about with it. Laughing First 'big' single I've ridden tbh, everything was a blur in the mirrors and had to keep
adjusting the left one. It was fun to ride but not even close to the hang on for dear life beast I'm used to.
Talking of which, I've just got home after a fuckin mental blast on the Spacker, now that's more like it!
Even if I say so myself, my bike sounds absolutely fantastic when it's being spanked without mercy. I'm loving
the bar end mirrors too, why didn't I get some ages ago? What a revelation, rear view with no shoulders or
elbows in the way. I've popped home because when I got to the pub I realised I didn't have my phone, thought it
might have come out of my pocket somehow, but it was in my tool room. off out again now. I'm not done yet. Twisted Evil

AFAIK in mode 1 they're only putting out (something like) 45 bhp, I think in the other modes you get 67 bhp. That'll probably be why you were struggling to hit a ton Razz

What mirrors did you get??

Just added some Chinese bits to the MT09.

Shorty levers (under £16) and a Chinese Savage Screen (under £15!) looks similar to the pricy Yamaha one. Impressed with the quality of the levers, how they can make these for under £16 and ship them to the UK in under a week is rediculous.

Bargain combo for £30 Smile

Measured up and designed the mounting plate for my new dash - I'll be making the actual mount up tomorrow, as well as fitting up the dash, tidying away the wiring, and prepping it for MOT.

Oh, last week (meant to make a post...) I set my rider sag on the MT09 (25-30%), the findings reveal soft as shit front springs and a hard as fuck rear.

2mm of the rings showing (6mm with the top nut) up front to get the desired sag and positon 2 at the rear. Measured while I wasn't wearing gear, I weigh 70kg plus gear. So I set it close to 25%, with gear It's likely it will go closer to 30%. Will measure again with gear when I get an opportunity.

Results:

Rear
Position Rider sag (mm)
4 = 27mm 20.8% (stock)
3 = 31mm 23.8%
2 = 33mm 25.4%
1 = 37mm 28.5%

Front
Height including top nut Rider sag (mm)
16mm = 46mm 33.6% (stock)
14mm = 43mm 31.4%
11 = 41mm 29.9%
10 = 40.5mm 29.6%
9 = 40mm 29.2%
7 = 39mm 28.5%
6 = 37mm 27%

Chucked some new rear indicators on I had lying around. Riding her made one come loose and was hanging from the wires. I assume the car caused that.

The same car I saw pull into my street when I was a bit further down the road. We had a 'chat'. They denied all knowledge. I showed them the footage on my phone. I pointed out the bit of rear light lens still wedged into the bonnet line of the fucking car. I wondered aloud how much the local patrol would like to see it. Would you believe it, money appeared to cover the parts.

Fucking parasites. Evil or Very Mad

Not all today, coz Wemoto delivery times but…

New chain and sprockets - gold DID chain because they’re faster - obvs. Cool

While I was there, thought I’d replace rear brake pads as they haven’t been looked at in nearly 3 years and MOT time looming…
Old pads out, yup knackered - pistons cleaned off… no way they were going to move anywhere. Calliper comes out. Split the halves and attempt to get pistons out… Much wrangling and heat and they finally budge. Pistons ruined, seals a melty mess of rubber after heating the calliper to get the piston to move. FFS... Evil or Very Mad

Cleaned calliper - new seals and pistons as the old ones were beyond saving. All back together… Thumbs Up

Then disaster strikes. Some numpty Embarassed either hadn’t tightened the bolts on the torque-arm enough… or the cheap eBay bolts I put on in place of the rusty originals failed… but lost the torque arm around 70 mph on the M11… No damage to the fixing points, so it didn’t shear off… so either both the bolts fell out coz they weren’t secure or the bolts failed spectacularly somehow. That caused the calliper to swing round to the other side of the disc and pinch the brake line between calliper and disc. Sad Luckily - no other damage
New torque rod, new stainless brake line - refilled and bled. Hours and hours spent cocking around with it… Just for a sodding rear brake.

New tyre ordered and front pads and eventually should be MOT ready! Very Happy Very Happy

They've almost eliminated the need for shoulder checks tbh, I think they look smashing on the bike too.

Discovering that front fairing removal is required for plugcoils, despite what the workshop manual says.

Half an hour later with the throttle body removed it rains.
