Replaced clogged fuel filter that was causing sputtering. Still need to remove air bubble in fuel line if it doesn't go overnight.

Added spacers to sprocket cover, as chain was rattling off it on left-handers.

Cleaned, lubed and adjusted the chain tension.

Debated doing gear linkage, but it'll be fine until the weekend.

Arranged delivery of them.

2 VFR's arriving in the next week. One ('97) will go back on the road with minimal fuss. I hope to MOT it by the end of the month. The other ('92) - We'll have to see. Might part it out, might 'fighter it, might raid it for spares. It does have new tyres on it.

I'll keep the 125 - Work is 4 miles, and I doubt the VFR will even warm up in that.. Can't see anyone wanting to buy the thing anyway.

It's in on Monday for a new pair of Avon 3D Ultrasport but tomorrow's ride might be much shorter than planned.

That tyre is squared off and beyond bald, ride it and you might get a nasty painful surprise.

Riding that would be stupid, not because it is square or balding, only becuase it is cracking and likely to fail.

Ordered. I do like these. Current one is upto 4k but is starting to show excessive cracking so will be swapped early. Still perfectly soft, grippy and plenty of tread left.

Fitted the 99p Harris hugger, quality and fit are amazing even for a second hand unit.

Also fitted Chinesium mirrors as the rubbers on mine were perished. They are no different to OE.

Had the Enfield booked in for its MOT, so I:

Arrow Tracked down the latest oil leak. Gearbox, just needed a bolt done up, didn't require stripping the primary off this time.
Arrow Binned the joke Czech-made Mitas rubber on the rear. Dead in under 3,000 miles, not fit for road use.
Arrow Lost the main hanger bolt from new shouty end can to vibrations, replaced.
Arrow Lost the lens from the rear light, lulled at the price, replaced the unit with a retro chrome one from the Bits Box.
Arrow Got everything spot on, ship shape and Bristol fashion. Even flicked a rag at it.

Cheeky fecker gave me an advisory for a slack chain. Shocked

For his edification, I pointed out the bizarre primitive idiomatic adjustment mechanism...

https://d1alt1wkdk73qo.cloudfront.net/images/guide/7857c83269024f93adbcad63113c892d/320x480.jpg

... and noted that with it on the next notch, the chain was drum tight with weight on the bike, as I'd found when carefully adjusting it last night.

Still got the advisory. Mad

Replaced the fuel filter on the R850R - it's a lot of a faff. You have to remover a plate from the bottom side of the tank, remove the breather and drain and then the pump and filter as a unit. Not hard but fiddly - the fun and games began when I tried to get it all back together.

The breather and drain hoses inside the tank are held on with Clic-R clips. Not a problem (usually) a swift bit of work with a flat screwdriver removed them and I have spare screw fit fuel hose clamps in my workshop. What I didn't realise was that the pipes they fit are too close to the flange edge to allow the unit to be refitted. So, one cheap pair of Clic-R pliers ordered and I decided to refit the flange in the meantime only to find that the nuts that hold it in place had stripped. M5 - again no prob... Oh wait, M5 fine thread. Better order some of those too.

Everything arrived, Clic-R pliers worked a treat, new o-ring and half an hour's work saw it all back together.

Replaced the rear wheel bearings on the M900, sorted out an ignition problem on the M750 (turned out that a new spark plug was a dud) and changed oil and filter on the Bandit 1200.

A slight update to this, I'd noticed when fitting one side of the bearings on the M900 that the fit was looser than I'd like (i could press it in with my fingers). I couldn't see any obvious damage to the bearing housing and the old bearing hadn't seized. Having checked on UKMOC (very useful site) I bought a bottle of Loctite 638, removed the wheel and bearing and have effectively glued the loose bearing in place. The wheel is currently sitting on my workshop floor raised on wooden blocks with the spindle through the bearing centres to ensure alignment.

It's been a week of irritating minor problems. Laughing

rode it 100+ miles with the replacement engine and all the work i've done to it
timing and replacing cam chains
spraying indicator plastics
VHT wrinkle red on all the engine casings,
Braided clutch line
tinted indicators
replacing starter motors
bearing replacements

the list goes on.

It didn't blow up. Clapping Clapping
so as it turns out, i have gained some mechanical skill over the last few years.

Doing fork seals and tire today. Got a new fork bush kit but would like to get the old out preserving the ptfe coating -want to see how worn they are. This means not tooo much heat.

Exhaust has been blowing since a spill in 2013 which bent the collector. Replacement arrives this week. This might be a mistake!

That leaves only a couple of minor problems, thermostat stuck open - ok until winter.. Tatty front fairing. Radiator fan mounts rotting away.. Should last until winter. And front right brake disc getting low.

You shouldn't need heat to separate the stanchion and slider - just use the normal hammer action of pulling them apart repeatedly. The outer bush should be driven out by the inner along with the seal.

The OD of an oil seal can swell/ expand and become a very tight fit, heat expansion of the seat helps a lot.

Sods law looks like I might need to drill the stainless drain bolts. Luckily they are soft as butter with decent carbide drills.

Advantage of having a lathe, lots of offcuts that make great fork handles.

Fitted new velocity stacks to the Busa, bunged a generic map on the power commander.
Booked in for a custom map on the dyno later this month.

Reassembled, no leaky! My 1l bottle of motul fork oil had exactly 924ml of oil, the exact amount required.

Old bushings after 98887 miles, worn very evenly, copper/bronze backing just starting to show.

Today I fitted a USB socket in place of the standard cigarette lighter style one with it's usb adaptor which fell out, a lot.

Didn't take long as everything is nicely accessible with the dash off and KTM were kind enough to use a standard size and provide a switched/fused power supply with spade connectors. No need to modify the wiring.

Road 5 rear fitted, would have done the front too but the chain needed some tlc.
Will fit front tomoz.

PR4s seem to have done 8.5k, might have got away with another 500 miles but it was getting a bit squirmy in the wet the other day.
