Went to start the VFR - No dice. Luckily I'd parked on a hill, so it bump-started. Got it home, meter out, and 11v at idle. Could be reg/rec (again), battery is only 3 months old, might be a short/fault, it lashed it down last night. Yoinked battery off, and will look at it next week.

Sorted the GSX-F's indicators properly with crimp connectors, as it was a "twist n tape" job when I found it. Haven't got time for the choke cable, but I suspect that's the issue with it choking and trunning really high.

Put a new radiator on my zzr1100.

Of course I could have done it in half the time if I didn’t have to cut off the radiator guard then find nuts and bolts to replace the captive bolts.

Praise be to Dremel.

Done now though, just to replace the fairings.

Something clicked last night. We had a surprise windy session on the ride back from work. Its sounds weird, but when I wasn't thinking about the winds too much, I started doing "bum stuff". It was almost a lean, but not. Hard to explain. It kept me in a straight line and I got home feeling a lot better about taking the bike in the wind.

Except tomorrow when we have really high winds forecast. Fuck that.

The best thing that was suggested to me for riding in high winds was to go faster.

I was surprised to find that it works.

Used a el-cheapo oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter after the socket cup type decided to brake and brute force didn't work.

Fitted CBR600RR Radiator to my GSXR400RKSP, complete with eBay chingchong cooling fan and coolant bottle.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49667029541_3e7ea00755_h.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49667029406_0b5c642bf8_h.jpg

Gave me the opportunity to junk the standard coolant bottle which lives under the seat and requires half the bike to come apart to top up.

Fitted GSXR600 rear shock. Original is fully adjustable but things have moved on and the GSXR600 unit at £60 is better value than any aftermarket job. Had to butcher a redundant bracket off the bottom of the battery box and space the battery box up a few mm but other than that it's a straight swop.

Went on a ride out with 2 mates yesterday. Lincoln, then Willingham Woods cafe. Also went Cleethorpes but it was a ghost town.
Out for about 5 hours and did about 125 miles.

"26 Nm isn't that much, I'll use this and it should be good enough" I foolishly thought as I used an el-cheapo Lidl oil filter wrench (pictured 4 posts up) to tighten the new oil filter after my cup type wrench broke attempting to remove the old oil filter. It got me out of a hole and allowed me to remove the old oil filter, sure, but I hadn't planned on it being as ineffective in tightening as it was.

Test started the bike multiple times on the day and even went for a test ride. All good, I thought.

Went to start the bike today and saw a puddle of oil: excellent.

Ensue a trail of oil as I went back inside to get my tools out.

https://i.postimg.cc/PJ9rbCT7/20200320-125744.jpg

After I'd fixed that I picked up another cup wrench type and returned to torque it up to spec. I'll cry if this one falls apart when I attempt an oil change next time round. £10 at my local bike shop, ffs. Should have just gone to Halfords. Mind, he did take an oil filter out the cupboard and try it for size to make sure it would work before I purchased it.. not bad service.

Currently hating the hoarding going on at supermarkets so carried on fiddling with the bike. Removed aftermarket exhausts and put the standard ones on (complementary last summer, much cleaner, photo of how dull they are):

https://i.postimg.cc/ZYBHr0PF/IMG-6162.jpg

I haven't used them since I got the bike last summer, and I could cry inside at how quiet they are. I went past a run down car and it made louder noise than me. I'd put the aftermarket ones back on but (a) can't use panniers with them, (b) an arse to fit and (c) not that greatly made where copying the original mounting points -- and also they don't have the packing at the connecting point (bike to downpipes) so are loose even when clamp is tightened.

Hopefully dogs will like me more now. Rolling Eyes Laughing

Unlucky! Could have been worse.

Never used a tool to tighten oil filter. Hand tight has always been fine (usually use a strap to undo them again).

Indeed.

More confused that it managed to survive a several mile ride on the day I changed the oil, and leak no oil after standing for multiple days, but then shortly after I started it it started leaking. Can only think that the engine oil filter cover had been masking a small leak and then pooped itself because loose once I'd started it.

Crappy tool and engine vibrations is my summary. Lesson learnt.

Pulled the camera off the 750 and fitted to the 600. Discovered more wire bastardising from a PO in the process of tapping the 12v feed on the rear light. Proper crimp connectors and water resistant boots fitted.
https://i.imgur.com/BXguJ5Zl.jpg

Removed the worlds smallest indicators and replaced with some non-obtrusive but visible ones on the 600.
https://i.imgur.com/bLtgHyWl.jpg

Charging the Honda's battery so I can start it and look for the problem tomorrow.

Decided it was probably the clutch rattling on the 250. Need to drop oil and investigate. If anyone knows what motor this is/based on, yell out so I don't have to ship from Korea. (Linuxyeti & pepperami - help is appreciated). Pic is pre clag removal, rust removal and painting. It's a cheap workhack, it'll be fine.

Got stuff ready to strip front end on the VFR if we get locked down. Might as well if I have it all here. I'll have a while to figure it out.
Rust convertor on all the bikes now the salt is probably done with. Painted over in an appropriate colour once dried off.

If I can get a chain guard id like to take off the wheel cover. Drawn to not liking it.
Seen lots of bandits without, looks better. A quick job like.

Still can't get images to appear as the other posts do..
I've got a link to photo from imgur pasted to the post, clicked Img and nothing.

this time just added an attachment.

Viffer - 90's Honda wiring. What joy.

My bodge job fixing a dangerous mess that a PO did fell apart. Also started getting melty. Ripped the lot out, started again. Reg/Rec was fine, put a new connector on, ran some 30A cable for the DC out, there's was already 30A cable for the AC in. Heavy duty 30A connectors. Ran cloth loom tape up the lot.No pics of after, I was tired and wanted to thrash... I mean ride, the 600 before I baffled the poor thing. Rust treated and painted while I had the rear cowl off.

https://i.imgur.com/LAWlh3rl.jpg

GSX-F - Ghetto-baffled the Remus. Remus HQ responded very quickly to my request to buy a baffle for this can, but the UK importer not so much. I have to be at work by 06:00 for the next few weeks, assuming we're not shut down, so stainless pot scourers it is. The hardware is to stop it getting blown out the back. Also discovered the 600 has been put 1 down on the front and 2 up on the back.

Just for Donk - One of my cat's helped by sunbathing, sorry, supervising, from the neighbours car. He'll probably shit in the flower bed later on.

Put a "new" RHS mid fairing panel on the viffer. These usually go for well north of £100 for even ropey but unbroken examples, I picked up a minter in my colour for £50.

Cleaned the Viffer's wheels. White is a bastard to keep clean.

Never caused me any problems yet.

So day 2 of cabin fever turned into a sunny bike day.

The busa:-Fitted a bracket for the front brake reservoir and a carbon cap, because I like the way it looks.

https://i.imgur.com/btamFMy.jpg?1

The TL1000R:- Fitted a 200 section rear tyre and wheel, I paid £7 for wheels and tryes from ebay. The guy I bought them off wouldn't come to the door when I collected them so he sent his wife because he was so pissed off he sold them so cheap.
I only wanted them for the wheels as they are in better condition than mine. But let's see how it handles with a 200 rather than a 190.
Fitted a carbon front mudguard.
Cleaned and bled the brakes.

https://i.imgur.com/2XkUSDp.jpg?1

The TL1000S:- Fitted a new screen as the old one was cracked, repaired the loom.
Made it go brap.

https://i.imgur.com/hTXfCTb.jpg?1

Tomorrow I will do some cleaning.

A lot of it is CBR250R based, but the motor appears pretty different. The valve cover on the Daelim is pretty distinctive. It's certainly not a clone, the Dealim's oil filter is twice the length of the CBR's.

If (when?) we get locked down, I'll open it up after I've changed the viffers forks over. I have oil and filters - Just hope it's something like a bit of friction pad has become detached, rather than something snapped off or worn in the box. Things only got 8K on it.

Not mine, but a mate who's going through a rough patch.
On top of that he crashed his CBR600. Stator case and engine case cracked, bolts snapped inside, fairings knackered, bar end and levers, gear lever and footpeg all broke.

Previously fixed the gear lever and footpeg, fitted stator casing to keep moisture out.

Tonight's episode was removing all bodywork. He's got China's finest fairings en route. Charged the battery, started below 7v hope it can be rescued. Trying to keep costs down.
It was at 11.6v before I pulled the plug. Will top it up some more tomorrow.
Oiled the chain, loads of stiff links as it's been sat a few weeks outside neglected. Will try waggling them free with pliers tomorrow.
Loosened the forks and reset the bars and axle, must have been quite low impact as there was not much movement.

https://i.postimg.cc/TwDd9GzQ/20200325-190000.jpg

Best part yet to come will be getting engine case bolt/studs out and repairing the engine case.

Make a bit of a thread on this Thumbs Up .
I like bikes that are a bit different, just out of interest.

I can’t see the engine being thier own design, it much easier for them to copy an existing engine/design.
It looks like it’s double overhead cams?, Kawasaki do a four stroke single engine like that (KLX?)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-KLX-250-1995-Classic-90s-Moto-X-Super-low-mileage-Great-Project/133356988546?hash=item1f0cb22882:g:kG4AAOSw6TxeZ3Zj

I’m pissing in the wind here and mostly guessing.
