The bikes which will go best when restricted to 33bhp are those which are very close to 33bhp to start with. The CBR250 went fine at 33bhp, and the Honda Bros400 is 33bhp in its standard form.

Any 33bhp bike you're looking at a top speed of about 100mph ish.

VFR400 and the RS250 put out around the same power, and need to loose roughly 25hp to become 33hp legal.

All the best

so i'll be riding a bike capable of not much more than a 125 but i'll never come to racing a 125 as no-one on a 125 will be willing to race a thundering 400 (well thundering compared to the 125)

An RS250 is 60+Bhp
yes you could get one restricted, but i really dont see the point when a derestricted rs125 is 33bhp

An RS250 as Dafrost says is 60+BHP and its Insurance Group 12 whcih means you could get a SV650 or Bandit Etc for the same price.

And there alot more reliable too!

A Bandit is Grp 10 and will cost alot less then an RS250, plus a Bandit would be cheaper to run and service.

And you'd spend longer on it as it has a better riding position and I think may even go faster as it has something like 80BHP in its standard form and isn't too bad 33BHP Restricted Very Happy

An rs250 would take the restriction very badly, if at all. You'd just be oiling the plugs because it would be able to rev high enough to keep clean.

Bandit 600 is supposed to take the restriction quite well.

The RS250 is quite bad on insurance, i am in the same boat as you, i am doing my 33BHP test soon, i did a quick quote from bennets last night for these bikes, results were as follows:-

1990 ZXR400 £395 TPFT
1992 VFR400 NC30 £405 TPFT
1992 CBR400RR £405 TPFT
1998 RS250 £575 TPFT

All based on 20 year old male with 1 year NCB

Think i'll probably go for the ZXR or the VFR.

a 33 b.h.p restricted 4 stroke still has more low down power than a de-restriced stock rs125 for example which makes about 28 b.h.p

i have had to restrict my 400 for a few months and i used to own an rs125 and it has more torque!!! in the lower/middle range
