Feel a bit stupid saying this, but when I got the bike out the other day I found out that I had no number plate. I haven't taken the bike out for around a month. I suspect it fell off when I rode over a speed-hump or something. I will get a new one done at halfords. Although unlikely, I can't rule out that t it has not been nicked.

What I wanted to ask whether by law I have to report it to the police or DVLA that it has been lost/stolen?

I don't think you have to report it if it's fallen off but if you think it's been stolen, or there is a possibility it's been stolen then you should tell the police just in case it's used in something illegal and they try to blame you for it.

Last year I had been riding my bike all day, brought it home and left it in my garage. A hour or so later my buddy wanted to go out for a ride so he popped up on his bike and I went to get mine out the garage. I looked at it and could see something was missing but it took me a while to work out what it was - number plate gone. No idea how long it was missing for, but it wasn't ridiculously obviously for something so big. It happens Laughing

Report it nicked before you start getting speeding tickets and visits from the police for fuel theft.
