Hi

https://www.rfidnews.org/news/2004/06/10/rfidenabled-license-plates-to-identify-uk-vehicles/

Basically trying to get all vehicles fitted with chipped plates so that they can be easily traced.

All the best

Keith

Sounds like a sneaky way to bring in a new speed camera - tracing your route and working out the average speed Confused
Just do 200+ the whole way and you'll be okay. Laughing

I've seen talk of this a good half year maybe more ago. But it wasn't just limited to number plates, they would be in tyres so each tyre would be registered to the car etc.

It is very big brother like, too much I feel. However on the same side if you have nothing to hide etc why should it concern you.

The technology already exsists to track you from your number plates by the use of cctv and cameras that re everywhere, but its not used.

Personally I see the possible benefits but I still don't like it.

It concerns everyone, as everyone speeds.

Any one who says they don't speed is a liar, or is an old granny driving dangerously at 10mph Laughing

So tracked numberplates that can tell your speed, and no doubt automatically issue a ticket for speeding ANYWHERE at ANY TIME is a no no and there is 100% no chance they will be fitted to my bike.

a tracker on number plate can't catch people driving dangerously so it's purely to catch people speeding at any time, any place and there is no other reason for it at all.

Yeah, I heard about his a while back too, sounds bad on the whole. I'm sure at the start it will only be used in a limited way, buyt once it all up and running I'm sure it will be put to other (less reasonable) uses. Confused

I posted about this quite a while ago, it was being touted as a theft prevention measure; to find stolen cars and other criminals etc.

They seemed to ignore the fact that it's very easy to replace a numberplate... ok cars with not recognised numberplates would also be tracked, but I'm sure it will be easy to get around.

Interesting, but what if i decide i want a body kit for my skyline? and i just remove the whole front, plate and all.

How can you permanently fit anything to anything? super glue?

They'll be ways round it. if there wasn't society would fall apart.

Right....

(btw, that was me not laura posting)

The basic idea is that it associates a numberplate/chip using a camera and appropriate device to read the chip remotely.

So, you have a numberplate but no chip, it calls the police and gives them your last destination, likely route and pictures of car/current numberplate.

You don't have a number plate or have the wrong one for the chip; same as above.

So you're going to have problems if you don't have a legal number plate linked to the chip in it.

If you do; well all your movements in a motorvehicle will be monitored 24/7. Easy enough to add in something that checks if it took you 55minutes to do 60 miles on that stretch of 60mph road... and send off a NIP everytime it does happen.
Ignoring this, there's many, many other ways it could be open for abuse. They are obviously going to try to make it 'unhackable'; this doesn't mean they will.

How would you like various people to know exactly where you are by hacking into a computer system? Suddenly becomes much easier to rob places when you know when no one's in... or to steal vehicles to order when you know exactly where they are.

Unfortunately the way our society seems to work we don't make that much of a fuss, especially when the politicians cover everything up with 'spin'.
1984 anyone?
