Any references to God make me yawn and roll my eyes.

This was no exception.

I thought this post was some kind of interesting delve into historical fact. But then I saw the last sentence and the proceeding posts relating to religion.

OP, what's this all about?

Admittedly there's some interesting stuff in ancient history, namely the pyramids, stone henge, easter island heads, etc.

Also...

Ancient history saw the introduction of some of our most fundamental mathematics - the pythagorean law, use of fractions, algebra, geometry and the early workings of the irrational number pi, amongst other things. And then, cue religion, vast amounts of what was the modern world went into a scientific dark age for centuries, possibly even millennia. This, to me, is religion's biggest failure - it utterly stifles the curiosity to figure out the unknown. Instead people just gawp and marvel at things and thank their creator for the apparent perfection around them, and then conveniently overlook the war, disease, famine, destruction and disaster because it was just 'meant to be'.

Typical god squad take on science...
1. Ignore half of it
2. Use a semi critical mind to find inconsistencies that come from not using all the available data.
3. Shout aha it all must be wrong.
4. Turn of that critical mind before going back to their religious books. A day well spent...

Here's the overview of the evolution within our genus, as stolen from Wikipedia:
Quote:
The earliest members of the genus Homo are Homo habilis which evolved around 2.3 million years ago. Homo habilis is the first species for which we have positive evidence of use of stone tools. The brains of these early hominins were about the same size as that of a chimpanzee, and their main adaptation was bipedalism as an adaptation to terrestrial living. During the next million years a process of encephalization began, and with the arrival of Homo erectus in the fossil record, cranial capacity had doubled. Homo erectus were the first of the hominina to leave Africa, and these species spread through Africa, Asia, and Europe between 1.3 to 1.8 million years ago. One population of H. erectus, also sometimes classified as a separate species Homo ergaster, stayed in Africa and evolved into Homo sapiens. It is believed that these species were the first to use fire and complex tools. The earliest transitional fossils between H. ergaster/erectus and archaic humans are from Africa such as Homo rhodesiensis, but seemingly transitional forms are also found at Dmanisi, Georgia. These descendants of African H. erectus spread through Eurasia from ca. 500,000 years ago evolving into H. antecessor, H. heidelbergensis and H. neanderthalensis. The earliest fossils of anatomically modern humans are from the Middle Paleolithic, about 200,000 years ago such as the Omo remains of Ethiopia and the fossils of Herto sometimes classified as Homo sapiens idaltu.[27] Later fossils of archaic Homo sapiens from Skhul in Israel and Southern Europe begin around 90,000 years ago.[28]

And Jesus came unto me and he did lift his hands up and show me the bleeding wounds caused by the nails of the cross.

And he did say unto me, "What a poxy way to spend Easter!" And lo, I did reach for the first aid box and applied the purple unction to his wounds. And Jesus cried out to our lord God when the purple unction was applied and yay I did slap his face and tell him to man the feck up.

Those Romans were hard bastards. Fancy nailing people to crosses when everyone else was enjoying a day-off and eating chocolate.

I never understood the great and astounding feat in the resurrection. Surely it would have been more astounding if the rock hadn't been moved. the man that cold walk on water couldn't walk through stone.
Which part of that is improbable?

Aw it's Good Friday, leave the Quackhead alone.

He's just looking forward to the vices he gave up on Ash Wednesday.

Funny, but science appears to also be an article of faith now. If those in the white coats (robes) say it's true, we believe! And with research into the roots of man and life on earth itself, it has undermined religion very successfully.

Good for progress perhaps, but society as a whole? We'll see..

The problem is that people approach 'science' as they do faith - they find a bit they like, then interpret it to mean what they want and take that as fact.
All the better if someone has already done that for them.

Rather than looking at it scientifically, reading up on how the research was completed and what other research was cited to back it up, then deciding whether the conclusions drawn are likely to be reasonable.

The ruins you're talking about are a Roman temple to Jupiter. Anyway, Baalbak isn't even mentioned in the bible. You've literally made all of that up.

The largest monolith you've pictured, The Stone of The South, they couldn't even get out of the quarry. Your giants couldn't drag a 1000.12t brick. Meanwhile, here in the real world, the largest crane deadlift to date was 20,133t. You heard it here first, folks; engineers are twenty times stronger than "giants".
