Thought i'd have at the minimoto from the comfort of my own bedroom Laughing

I took it apart months ago before I even had a bike and didn't bother putting it back together for some reason, thought I just took the pull start off but apparently I unbolted the cylinder, gave it a bit of a pull and the cylinder flies off with the piston Laughing

Now I can't get the bugger back in!

Here's a question... piston rings, should they have gaps in them?

I'm guessing pieces of piston ring shouldn't fall out the cylinder? Laughing

Yes, they should have gaps. Also make sure the ends of the rings don't slide past one of the ports. The piston should have little pins in the grooves to help you line them up

Ta, closer inspection one of the rings is definitely fucked...the rest of it fell out the cylinder Laughing

Might just get a new whole piston for it, pretty cheap and the old one makes a nice ornament Razz
2strokes really are simple as fuck, just a piston on a rod, wow!

Naaaah no point atm, maybe when I have spare cash again, plus how will I know if the mounting bolts line up?

Could be fun to bring to the BBQ if I can get it on the pillion seat Laughing
£40 for an engine seems overpriced when there's whole bikes going for £60, and I only paid £50 for it Razz

I licked it and wiped it with my t-shirt, I think it's the settings, it doesn't like being indoors with low light with a light on Laughing

either way it's some shit, probably just slap a new piston in it

Ah yes, good my man, I could barely see that and it made my eyes go blurry trying to spot it, got the light on an angle at it and can clearly see

So it's been scraping away at the bore eh
Why would that happen?

prolly caused when the ring got damaged and caused the piston to be on the piss.

Either that or tiny bits of ring got caught in the gap and grinded away.

if it's only light scoring one can fix with some polishing. else it be new barrel tiem.

Silly question, when you say you can't get the piston back in Alpha, what's stopping it going back in?

If it's just the rings then why not press them with one hand and drop the barrel on with the other

I tried, couldn't get it in, it'd probably go in with a bit more wrangling, but it needs new rings anyway so i've left it for now

probably broke the ring when I fired the cylinder head off, it hasn't been started in like a year or 2
