Picture dump to follow.

People were arriving en-masse at 9:30am at the Ace. At 10:30am we left. As you go out the groups get broken up into small chunks 10-20 bikes, by the traffic lights. So, no huge group happened. I got into Sothend about 12'ish, parked about 12:30pm. Mad traffic once your in town! It takes about an hour and a half to do the journey on a 4 stroke 125. A lot of which was between 50-60MPH. From Ace to Southend me odometer read about 100km (about 60 mile?). I imagine about an hour or less on a big bike doing appropriate speeds. The first bit slows everyone down. Speaking of which...

The route follows the A406 to the A2, then straight up the A127. The A406 is mostly 40-60 zones, with a lot of speed cameras. Everybody rode mostly to the limit. Its the first bit that’s a touch slow. Toooo many cameras on the A406.

Once you get out of the M25, its dual carriageway NSL, not many speed cameras. The road flowed at a good speed all the way to Southend. It only slowed down when you actually got to Southend. I am sure you could go at whatever speed you felt was appropriate. No slow crawls there that I heard about.

Yamaha SR 500 with different seat and raised exhaust. Its a commonly customized bike, there is a few different seats and tanks for them.

That's the-godfathers thundercat, and you can just about make out the maroon/burgondy of my bike in the top right corner (inbetween the bars of the orange bike).

To be honest we got a bit bored, it isn't as good as the brighton burnup. After an hour two we buggered off and found some nice roads nearby:

What makes it more or less interesting than the Brighton Burnout?

A few people commented on the lack of stands this year (my first big ride out, I have no idea how it compares to anything tbh Embarassed ).

Scale for a start, the amount of bikes at the burn-up is overwhelming, I'm sure I heard the number 40,000 thrown around* a few years back. People come from all over Europe.

Plus the burn-up itself is only one day out of what I believe is a 5 day event, never been to any of the other days but IIRC Arial-Badger was drag racing there last year the two days before the burn-up so that explains some of it.

Also like you say the amount of stalls. At brighton there are more of everything, most manufacturers have stalls, most tyre makers, plenty of gear stalls, also live music and lots of food.

I didn't go to Southend this year but from what I can remember from the last few years it is the same as Brighton.

Then you have to do the Burnup this year, starting from the Ace, just so you can see the sheer scale of the thing. It really is unbelievable. before the off bikes are parked everywhere, all along those pathways next to the grass verge up to the lights, across the pedestrian bridge...

Then the lunacy of getting out of there and away. It's an experience you shouldn't miss.

Doh! SR's bigger bother. Your right, single vs twin exhaust is the obvious difference. Embarassed

There'll be a thread up in another month or two but usually a group of us meet under the railway bridge near the ace and then meet the rest at burgerking on the seafront. Was about 15-20 of us a year or so back.

That shiny Guzzi (?) Was parked about 3 bikes up from mine. Highlight for me was the four RD350s and an RG500 all starting up next to my bike when i was about to leave. The smell was orgasmic.

Whens the Brighton Burn Up? Fancy doing that too.
