Hi all,

I am planning to get a few bits done to my 51 plate bandit 600. It's used daily for around a 12 mile commute.

Due to the bank holiday weekend I haven't been able to phone around for prices as of yet. I am looking for a new chain and sprocket, new tyres and some heated grips. The tyres I want to last and am not afraid to spend to get some decent rubber

Before anyone suggests doing any of the work myself, seriously, just no.

Would anyone be able to give me a real rough estimate/suggestions for tyres?

Where abouts are you located?

Tyres ~£200
Chain and sprockets £80-100 for good parts alone, £50-£80 fitting if garage is a rip off.
Grips, buy some Daytona grips and someone can fit them for like £25.

If you are close enough, all of those can be done Wink

For all of that the bill will be sizeable. A decent pair of tyres have got to be over £200 fitted.

Under that, but yeah, I'd keep that value in mind.

It would cost your the parts and a few hours of your own time, tyres can be done by yourself, easier at a garage, but grips and chain/sprockets are cake.

Yeah I totally see the complete laziness but she needs an mot also, so whilst I'm at it I may as well get everything sorted (at a stupid expense)

I understand what your saying Paddy, but some people genuinely dont know what to do or how to do it. Im not saying the OP is a mechanical numpty Laughing .

I'm all for people having a go themselves, but when i have a bike that someone has 'had a go' on and messed up, the bill is often higher as it takes me longer and also, other parts may require replacement. There is also somtimes special equipment needed for certain jobs.

All i will say, is make sure you get a price BEFORE you book it in with a garage. An estimate they can change...

Of course, I am ham fisted too Wink

But all it takes is a few sockets. If he had someone who was willing to give him a hand and stuff, he would be fine and would cost beer money/anal, depending on his pleasure. Then he would know how to do it next time Laughing

If you can take both wheels off, the cost of changing tyres is significantly lower. I think my place charges me a fiver/tenner a wheel. Can't quite remember.
