Hello!

I needed the missus to help me ring out some wires at home on a lighting circuit. After telling her to put the probe of the multi-meter on the red wire, I expected to hear a buzz from the meter from at least one of the wires i was checking.

Confused as to why there seemed to be no continuity on any of the the wires i double checked the meter and gave it the customary tap on the screen as if to question its logic.

Reiterating what to do and telling her to make sure the probe is on the red wire, i tried a couple more times but still nothing. I stepped down off the ladder and asked her to show me where she was putting the meter probe exactly.

'Well you told me to put it on the red wire' she said, and in an act of complete literalness proceeded to put the tip of the prob on the red INSULATION of the wire. Confused I had to give her 10 on 10 for following instruction.

My proceeding mocking however did not bode well later when requesting her to touch the tip of my probe.... Fnar fnar....

Anyone else's other half equally inept and do you avoid involving them in any kind of DIY/maintenance for fear of them doing more harm than good?

I made a daft mistake of leaving the lights on in the car one night at a shopping centre, and after managing to find someone with jump leads to help, I had to push the car about 15 yards towards the other. At this point I asked my darling wife to jump in the front seat, and lightly apply the brake when I said so. The car moved, the shout came, and she stamped so hard on the middle pedal that my face almost went through the rear window.

Bad times Laughing
