Been looking at bikes on ebay and I have decided that the GS650 would be the perfect bike for me. Has a lot more power, get's amazing MPG and cannot believe it but doesn't cost that much more than my 125 to insure.

Been looking at this one

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140952947184&clk_rvr_id=467915820436&item=140952947184&lgeo=1&clk_rvr_id=467915820436&vectorid=229508

I think this is a good example of one. IMO much better in every way than the GS1200!

yeah..... something silly happened the other day and I had a ride on a CBR600RR. Didn't like it that much but the power...... fuck me the power!

I didn't think you could get a good such a good mpg out of large engine. the GS650 would be a perfect fit I'm thinking. Need to test ride one but all the reviews point to it being an amazing bike.

This one costs slightly more than my XL125V.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-G-650-GS-2011-MODEL-/111032868995?_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14838%26meid%3D6936345527973940344%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1048%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D140952947184%26

Has a lot more miles on the clock then my bike.

Not till I buy one Very Happy To be fair every large bike I have ridden has been a sports bike, part from the MT350. I used a friends MT350 for a weekend and HATED it.

I still stand by everything I said about owning a 125. I love my 125 I got now but I'm not closed minded to the idea of moving on.

Did make me 'lol' - remember a GS650 will be way off a CBR-RR, but still way ahead of your bike in terms of power.

The G650GS makes an interesting economical choice if you're happy to keep your speed down.
While I wouldn't want to go near a 1200, it's engine will be much more relaxed sitting at motorway speeds than a big single.
I wouldn't consider it a dirt bike - just a cheap-to-run touring bike with dirt styling (just noticed it doesn't have spoked wheels - 'wtf'?)

Me, if I was sticking to the road I'd look at a G650Xmoto. This uses the same basic engine, but has a good chunk less weight and road sized wheels.

A friend's got a MT350 and he considered a YBR125 'nippy' - I think that says enough about them!

Note that someone on here was getting around 100mpg out of a GPZ500s by riding at 45mph everywhere - basically, doing C90 speeds and getting C90 fuel economy - but of course with the option of opening it up if needed.

Yeah It's pretty much half the power of the CBR. I think the GS650 suits me a lot better than any other style of bike. I will admit that I felt shit scared on the CBR because it felt like the front wheel didn't want to stay on the ground. The bike was controlling me not me controlling it.

Servicing the GS looks almost as simple as my 125.

I would ride one before you buy. Big singles are not everyones cup of tea.

Personally I don't like them but I have not ridden that BMW so can't comment on that.

If you are looking for a trailie style 650, The Versys or V-Strom could be tested.

However, you like the Varadero, why not go get the proper one Wink Thumbs Up

From reading your posts above I can't help but think maybe a 97-99 cbr 600 would do you, it's softer than the RR but still quick.

For that kind of money you could be looking at big boy GS's, albeit a slightly older model. Might be worth a test ride before you make up your mind.
They're a bit heavier, but you get used to it quickly.

I will test ride one for sure. I thought there was a twin version of the GS650? I'm going to to test ride a few bikes but I'm hoping the GS is the smoothest of them all because cost wise it seems the best choice. I best send off my licence off and get my 33bhp removed lol

Maybe a tdm 900 ? decent hp with a nice amount of torque. As mentioned before a big single doing motorway miles wouldn't be my choice.

For a few years the F650GS was basically a lower/cheaper F800GS.
I quite like the idea of a F800S/F800ST, good on fuel with an 'ok' amount of go and not too silly weight.
If you're looking for road use, these are the ones I'd go for.
The twin will be less vibey and more reliable at speed.

No need to send it off unless you just want it taken off the photo card.

You need to get the "Sertão" version if you want to go adventure riding on your "adventure" bike. Rolling Eyes

Yup, I see well into the 70s on mine. The G650 and the NC700 redline at 6,500rpm and claim 80mpg+. I'd imagine that if you upshifted early and scrupulously stuck to that limit then you'd see similar fuel economy on many bikes.

Wow the Sertão version looks amazing. Little more costly though. I think the 53bhp would be a very good stepping stone for me. I will give it a try for sure. There was a twin gs650 i do believe which would be a lot smoother?

This looks completely perfect for my touring needs. IMO much nicer looking than the GS1200's. The main complaint about the 650 is that it is very under powered but that won't bother me.

Cannot see any plus points of owning the 1200.

You couldn't see any plus points owning something bigger than a 125 Laughing

I never said that I said I can never see me needing anything bigger which I don't. As I said I completely stand by what I say about 125s. You can live quiet happily owning one.

I am still shocked that pound for pound its almost the same value buying the 650 as my 125. I still need to test ride one.

Not fancy the 800? That's the pick of the GS in my opinion. The 650 is pretty slow and underpowered by all accounts.
