I used to skate when I was younger. I started when I was a proper kid (6/7 years old, on quad skates), and moved on to the aggressive skate scene when I was about 11 or 12, in Cyprus.

When I moved back to UK, I saved up, and bought myself a pair of Roces Khuti Aggressive skates, when I was 14 or 15, and once I hit about 16, I got into bikes, and the skates ended up in the loft.

My best girl friend Amber does this sport now called Roller Derby. And she goes to a Roller Disco every now and then to practice her speed skating.
She runs on Quad skates, but she's invited me to a roller disco, and I'm allowed to run my Roces.

So I dug them out of the loft, re-laced them, and made sure they still fit!
Gonna get me skates on tomorrow, and go for a blast. Not sure how I will get on. It's been nearly 10 years since I last rode them, and since then, I've been through some issues with my wafty feet, as some of you are aware of.
The skates offer good support upper-ankle though, so as long as I wear thick socks, and they're tight enough, I will probably be okay.

Will try to get some pictures of me looking like Bambi on ice! Laughing

These are the whips!

Similar to you, I used to skate from the age of 8-10 on a pair of Roces FCO Romes, then from 11-15 got in to more aggressive street skating and going to skate parks on the vert ramps.

I don't have any photos but these were the Romes:

Last pair of blades I had was K2 fatties. I wish I had them knocking about somewhere just to have a little skate around outside on but fuck that these days, my knees are fucked.

That's cool Thumbs Up

Main thing you'll notice is a saddening lower level of fitness compared to how you were when you were doing it before. Unless you're still youthfully into fitness now.

I spent 10 years as a skateboarder. About two years have passed since I was doing it with hardcore devotion. Now I get on a board and am comparably less fit. It sucks!

A lot of my pals had the K2 Fatties. Wicked skates.
I remember borrowing a pair of USDs from a mate. Think they were USD ST1's or something. Brilliant skates though. Nice and light.

I smashed my wrists to fuck a good few times when was younger. Laughing

I remember these two kids who I used to knock around with when I was 6-8 and one day they came to my house on a pair of Bauer blades and I had a go and it got me hooked from then. I had some other shit skates which were terrible to ride on and the Bauers felt like I was just gliding effortlessly. Shame as well, I heard a couple years ago that one of those 2 kids died in a motorcycle accident.

I remember building DIY ramps with my brother and we would pelt down this hill outside our house and just do 360's and 720's off it.

I dread to think what I would be like on a pair of blades these days, it's probably been 12/13 years since I was on them.

pulled a pair of skates (ice) on a couple of years ago and it took 5 minutes before it all came back and I was like a pro again
took my kids by surprise that there dad could do spin's & jumps

Oh its where I first met my Mrs when I was 15 couple of weeks later we were an item

Similar to the above, started skating around 8-9, stopped when I moved to Canada at 16/17. Used to rock a pair of Saloman ST Ones. £280 of pure godliness, had top of the range (at the time) Abec 3s.

I do miss them, shame my old fella skipped them while I was away. Twat.

I also started skating at the age of about 10-12, and I carried on whilst my friends moved on to skateboards.

I used to have some Salomon St tens, loverly skates. I dug em ou about a year ago and went for a skate around the neighbourhood, haven't lost all of my skill Mr. Green And if I do say so myself, when I was younger I was pretty darn good.

LOL I still have my old rollerblades in the cupboard but (due to my age) mine are now over 20 years old, embarrassing dayglo colours and precede all your fancy technical stuff by about 10 years!

Embarassed

I used to live 5 minutes away from Skate Extreme in Newport and Monday night was mountain bike night. I got a pair of Bauer something or others from a mate once and started taking them in a bag on my bike and used to do an hour of skating before the rest of the mountain bikers turned up. I was never any good at doing tricks but I could ride everything in the park apart from the vert and I used to just love flowing around the park.

I moved away from Newport when I was 14 and except for a flutter for a week or so around 5 years ago I haven't skated since. I sort of miss it but not that much as I never stopped mountain biking and that's always been "my" sport.

I used to skate round the car parks in Flint with a mate of mine, taking bits and pieces down to jump over. We both had Bauers because that's what you had in the late nineties if you didn't want JJB's own brand. Eventually I fractured a wrist on an over-ambitious jump and we never really kept it going after that. The blades might still be in the loft or I might have chucked them.

TL;DR - you get old and stop doing that sorta thing

used to blade quite a lot.. was one of those 'agressive skaters' annoying people by putting wax all over steps and blasting across them into walls and hedges

used to play ice hockey in the juniors and used skating as a kind of practice but different thing to do.

had a good laugh Smile

had roams too, they're still in the cupboard as well as my silly baggy skater jeans Very Happy

bearings are shot though.. too many high jumps knackered them

Good topic!

When I was a lot younger I used to do a lot of aggressive skating, had a pair of Bauer Sanctity's. Similar to these:
https://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/7/6/7/3/5/6/webimg/504207793_tp.jpg
About a year ago I decided to get some more skates to help improve my fitness levels and bought some Roces Majestic 12's. Those were the ones to have back in the day. https://i56.tinypic.com/xliej8.jpg

Needless to say, I used them once and it wasn't as easy as I remember lol! Might order some better abec bearings and have another go once the sun comes out!

As an adult male, can you still get away with using roller skates in public without looking like a paedophile and/or a retard?

Used to have a really old pair of inlines. Also had street hockey pro skates too. Used to play both ice and street hockey. Training was normally a 5 mile skate to and from work each day.

Cant remember the inline brand I had but the ice and street hockey were Bauer skates. Also had a stanta cruz skateboard with Fox2 trucks which way back in my yooof cost me a small fortune.

For the record, inline skates are manly. Quad skates are for gays and roller discos.

I don't believe so.

I think the reason they came up with the term 'aggressive' was to make it sound a little less ghey.

It didn't work, it's still very ghey.

I wouldn't mind a little skate around the car park for 20 mins but not start skating again. It is definitely viewed as a homosexual activity.

I did a summer on mine, still have them. I crashed a few times, once across a kerb and did myself right in. Then I was all like "fuck that shit" and bought another bike.

I stuck them on at work today, and had a blast around the workshop. Laughing

Then spoke to the roller place, and it's quad skates only. Booo!

But we've rearranged for Thursday, at a different place, where Inline skates are alright.
