With the hotter weather coming up, one of you might come across a crash, I think every rider should know this.

I thought you would leave it to the emergency services? Neck/spine injuries and all that?

Let's hope you aren't looking after a biker that has stopped breathing then.

Very informative actually, but I would seriously weigh up the options first before even considering to remove the lid, yes they might not be breathing but is there a potential of reviving them there followed by potential of causing serious spinal injury in doing so.

Still a very good video, unless it was a dire emergency I would personally wait for paramedics to turn up and remove it.

Get yourself on a free Biker Down course if you can. It is about three of four hours of your time but you learn all about if/when and how to remove a lid safely.

I would not remove a lid unless I thought the guy was not breathing, as mentioned in the video, but if I found myself in the position where it became NECESSARY I now feel confident enough to do so.

Pits, it only takes a few minutes before brain damage starts to occur (from what I remember). What's a good response time for an Ambulance? Sub 10 minutes?

I have done a fair few 4-5 day first aid courses and you are drilled that there is no waiting about for an ambulance, you assess the area and then get straight in with the ABC's.

I specifically asked the helmet question and was told that if breathing has stopped, you get the helmet off.

One of the benefits of training is practising the theory, so you know what to expect if / when you need it.

If you dont think you will be able to give it a shot when the adrenaline is flowing, having only seen a video on you-tube, give it a shot on a mate and see what it is like trying to remove a helmet that is a decent fit. I'd be more likely to remember something I'd done, rather than something I'd only seen.

There is a fair bit of weight in a human head, so one bit of advice I was given is to use your knees to support your hands.

Good post OP Thumbs Up

Just watched the video and i can verify that is exactly how its done over here too. Even with the training and knowledge you shouldn't be removing the helmet unless it is absolutely necessary.

Strange because the way it's taught down here is to reverse the removal roles... I.e. guy at head end removes the helmet and guy at foot end supports the head during the removal process..

Eggsactly - open the visor and unless you can prove to yourself the wearer is breathing that helmet has to come off.

I've heard that posted loads. Someone asked on my recent first aid course, and they said that they've never heard of anyone getting sued from giving first aid.

That video is the same way that I've been taught. Very useful.

Quite the opposite, I think (not 100% sure).

I heard that if trained in First Aid and then fails to attempt to administer it could render one liable to be sued.
Question

There is NO compulsion on a person trained in first aid to actually administer it other than what is provided by their own conscience.
