7am this morning and roads and weather looked ok. Drizzle I could deal with, and it had stopped when I left anyway.

However, outside of Cobham on my way to work at Dorking, it’s obvioulsy just been smashing down. On top of the hill on the way here was also rain, cunningly disguised as pea-soup fog.

So complete waste of time and products cleaning the bike last night, as its once again covered in left over salt, mud and all kinds of other crap.

Utterly pointless.

Fucking weather is really starting to piss me off now, I think i've got seasonal affective disorder afte this last year of nothing but rain and cloud!

Have kids & wife? If yes, talk to them about migrating to a warmer country, if no, just migrate to a warmer country. Far better for you than getting wound up about British weather which will never get any better. Thumbs Up

It always makes me laugh a little when people moan about the weather.... and that they cant use their bikes. Which are one of the many sources of carbon generation that, it would appear, are responsible for the weather changes we are experiencing.
No point in trying to argue that bikes are 'more economical'. They burn just as much fuel as most modern cars.
I am not, actually, the greatest believer that carbon alone is responsible for the extremes we have been experiencing, but I am sure it is a contributing factor.

I did use the bike, I'm not moaning about not being able to use it.

14 miles is a bit far to walk anyway Laughing

Train would be possible, but more expensive, and also has a heft carbon footprint in terms of modes of transport.

Carbon producing engines are also not responsible for the council dumping tonnes of salt on the road even when it's not necessary as the temperatures are not cold enough for frost or ice, simply to ensure budgets are spent.

I'm saying the weather has been abnormally shit for the last 12 months, and that lengthly period of cloud, cold and rain with little/no sunshine is depressing.

Obviously doesn't bother some people.

My missus is Australian, that's my long term plan yes. Bring on the skin cancer.

It's alright over here. I wore my winter gloves and my textile jacket the other day - and regretted it because I was boiling. Whistle

Yep, it's a great steaming pile of rancid shit, this weather. We're on course for the 7th below average summer on the spin. WTF happened to global warming? WTF happened to summers so hot the tarmac started to melt? 1995, 2003, 2006 - proper summers.

I ride all year round. I can put up with cold, grey, wet and crap weather in the winter. But having endured months of that shite, we need a bit of warmth. Sunshine. Blue skies. I still ride no matter what but it's a lot more enjoyable when it's nice.

Ironic name for such a disorder. Crap weather in the UK is no less seasonal than winter is on Pluto. At least I have had a bit of mild, dry weather even if its been windy. Absolutely despise the rain and the road salt for that matter.

These people boasting about the lovely weather they've been having... where's the 'that's right you fuckin' rub it in git' karma when you need it?

Anyway, maybe... just maybe since everyone has been forced to be environmentally friendly for the last few years it's causing the shit weather. Bring back coal fires, harmful exhaust gasses, CFC packed aerosol cans if it means the weather will improve

To be fair we had shit weather around Leeds first thing, I just went inside for another coffee before setting off for work. But yes my cleaning efforts are also for nothing now.

Rain I can cope with, don't like it but, meh...

It's the bleedin' gale force winds that really piss me off. Worried about about my bike being blown over while parked up, craping myself while riding it, incase I get blown into something.

In fact it is so bloody windy here at the moment, I'm worried the roof's going to be blown off the building.

Seems like we have had so much shite weather for such a very, very long time.

Yeah the wind's been insane the last couple of days. I was up on the wolds near Huggate yesterday, forgotten I'd got an Open Reach cunt coming round, so had to race back home. I was going head on into this crazy gale, it was like sticking your head out of an inter-city train - felt like I was doing about 150mph. Glanced down, speedo was on 30. Embarassed

It's those sudden side gusts that scare the shit out of me, nearly got blown into some parked cars a few weeks back. Also when you are leaning to get round a bend and a side wind picks you back up Shocked

The wind has been the big issue in recent years. On paper, temperatures look average. But the constant bloody wind always makes it feel colder. Even when the sun comes out it's usually not warm.

Three of my first four summers on the road (1985, 86, 88) were like this - shite. Then we had a ridiculously good run of 16 out of 18 above average ones from 1989-2006 (1993 was pish, as was 1996 - 2000 was extremely wet but also frequently hot and sunny).

2007-now has been fucking awful most of the time. I want to see a return of the summers like 1995, when it was so hot that your arse felt like it was going to catch fire when you sat on the bike Laughing

Yeah, was just out in the wind, I've been out of the saddle till recently and the stretch I was on is usually windy, wasn't till I stopped that I realised its very fookin' windy! Traffic lights were shaking quite a bit, thought I was just being a pansy about it.

Global warming will - and is - making the overall temperature-you-feel colder. It will end up as an early ice age in fact.

The way it works is the average temperature goes up a degree or two which melts the ice caps and raises the sea level. Now, because there is no longer as much ice cap to reflect the radiation from the sun back into space, that energy is absorbed by the oceans, which slowly raises their temperature with the eventual result of higher humidity and rain.

Now, the planet is covered by cloud which has the effect of reflecting the vast majority of radiation from the sun back into space, rather than the balance we had before.

Without that radiation from the sun, the temperature plummets. Oceans freeze, crops fail, society has to come up with new forms of energy. A kitten dies. The Daily Mail tells us it was the Labour Party's fault.

The Scotsman - Ice Cap Melts at Fastest Rate For 1000 Years

Climate change is no longer a debate, it's a scientific fact.
