Think they're all the same underwriter. Those are the 3 companies which wanted to take my quote from £220 to around the £8000-9000 region for modifying it with an alarm. Rolling Eyes

Adding an alarm and a tankpad... well... that just made me uninsurable.

I paid £100 extra last year to go with WickedQuotes... and I'll be doing the same this year.

I went with Green, and when my bike got nicked it ended up costing me £250 as they wouldn't sell me gap insurance on the policy to cover any possible difference between the cost of the bike and the amount owing on finance. they also refused to pay out the market value of the bike, saying that what they were offering was the maximum they would pay out. Green, Kwik Fit and Express are all one and the same company, and they are crap.

I will repeat this time and time again, get a quote from "Ramasis Insurance" (also known as WickedQuotes, but go to the Ramasis site directly) as not only are they pretty cheap and definitely "in the range" of proper insurance prices for the vast majority of people, they also know what they are doing and really do want to help you.

For my XV535 insurance, I was paying £350 TPFT for the year with a £1000 voluntary excess + £500 compulsory excess. When it came time to renew the man spent a little while on the phone with me and worked it (doing several quotes for me I believe) so that I gained breakdown cover, more legal cover, protected NCB and a voluntary excess reduction from £1000 to £100 and managed to get my quote from £350 TPFT to £320 TPFT with an extra one year NCB.

The way I have seen it in my experience is that they actually want your business, they pretty much always answer the phone in around four rings and you always get through to a human who knows what they are doing. Plus you can specify certain policy addons like protected NCB/ride other bikes etc, which is why I use them as no other insurer would give me ride other bikes.

I can't tell you who to avoid (apart from MCE) but I can tell you who to check out, and Ramasis Insurance are one of those you really should pay attention to.

Site: https://www.ramasis.co.uk.

Cheers!

That's a very good price.

All my bikes fall into the classic category (over 25 years old) so I use Carole Nash for their specialist policy; they don't do comparison sites, so you have to phone them up, but I've never found anyone to touch them yet.

I'm afraid I can't advise you on that, since I'm 47, but I live in a pretty high risk area, haven't declared any security and pay about £300 for fully comp, which I think is damn good value, given what it could cost if I threw one of mine up the road.

On the flipside, I haven't made a claim yet and it's difficult to make like for like comparisons.

Im with express insurance, never had any problems. Paid out quickly and fairly when my bike got stolen. I moved to RAC which were fine until i wanted to change the bike over. They wanted £1300 TPFT.

I rang up express insurance up and they gave me a quote directly for my new one cheaper than anything on the comparison sites by £200 and cheaper than what RAC wanted for the new one by £900.

RAC were just being cunts because they either wanted their cancellation fee or for me to just accept their new premium.

I get quotes with no NCB on a TL1000R for less than that? The 535 is a barge, I'd be expecting £100 or so a year for that Shocked

Very reasonable quotes for me. I paid £380 last year on the '04 GS500F. Not cheap but I was 18 and only had 6 months experience to declare despite riding for 12 months. (6 months provisional before taking tests). Also 1 years NCB.

A month after taking out the policy I crashed the bike which resulted in a £1500 claim against me. It was my fault and the guy I crashed in to was a great bloke. Only claimed minimally to get the vehicle fixed, didn't try and land any personal injury money or anything. Even said he would be happy for me to pay cash and avoid insurance... but I couldn't afford it.

I've ran some quotes for next year. Same bike, 19, 1 year 6 months since getting my full licence, 0 NCB, £1500 fault accident declared. Quote... £380.

avoid Equity Red Star underwriters at all costs, they were a pain in the arse when they made a mistake and had to pay me for a recovery which they made in error.

Now I've got an ongoing claim against me which I know nothing about, when I ring up they say it's being dealt with by x, I ask them to transfer me and I end up at the switchboard who tell me that that x doesn't exist!

I'm now with KGM, hopefully I won't have to find out if they're any good.

I use Moneysupermarket for main quotes then do some non comparison site brokers for 'comparison' Smile
Money supermarket always comes beck cheapest.
I have two policies with Bennetts now who I have NEVER had any real issue with and they are very good on the phone.

Carole Nash were shite and expensive every time. Quoting £500 when I could do it with Bennetts for £250 Rolling Eyes

On topic though... H&R, low prices direct from their site but if you are restricted they do put up a fight about the certificate Laughing

They gave me a month to send them license, mileage proof and restriction. I couldn't sort out the datatag in time, but when I rang up the day before the certificate expired they said I could pay the difference with no admin charge! Very pleased

They were the only insurer to give me a decent price on the CBR, probably because they're sensible enough to check whether it's all in order.
