Hi guys,

There is a courier I see every now and then, he rides a dullsville and (or but) is one of the quickest filterers I see through town, on my cbr I could keep up with him just about but on my divvy I have no chance mostly due to the width and height of my mirrors, and being bar mounted jobbies they don't fold as easily as fairing mirrors.

Being a similar sort of bike I assume he had similar issues too and I have noticed he now has mirrors that are almost vertical from the bars and on top of that are rectangular and are rotated so they are taller than they are wide. This means they are barely any wider than his shoulders and because of the height he still seems to get a good view. I'm guessing when the road opens up he just rotates them 90 degrees for a better wide angle view.

Anyway I'm trying to find these mirrors so I can replace mine but I can't find any similar, any ideas where I may get some?

Also are mirror threads a standard size?

Most mirrors are no wider than your handlebars for this reason, mine were on my old divvy so never eally had any problems filtering.

It's not so much the width that is the issue it's the height of them, they are perfectly in line with almost all van mirrors and the bars line up with lots of car mirrors.

In all honesty it probably adds no time to my journey but it does make it more effort to filter which just makes the whole journey seem like more work than it should do. Riding in on my CBR was fun regardless of how bad the traffic was, riding in bad traffic on the divvy is stressful at best.

Would these be any good?

They sit inwards (towards the inside of the bike) and rotate out, I've no idea how effective they might be but could be worth a shot Thumbs Up

Possibly, I was looking at them before, just unsure if what I would gain at the height of the mirrors I would loose because of the extra width on the bars?

As for folding them in, the problem is because they are threaded they either undo when I pull them in, or wont turn further because they are at the end of their thread.

Most are either 8mm or 10mm thread. Not hard to find out what yours are. There are converter bolts to change mirror thread size too. I gave some away not long ago.

If you commute anywhere near the bottom of the M1 / A406, I am around Staples Corner during the daytime. Welcome to swing by and I can try both 10mm thread and 8mm thread (have 8mm mirrors with a 10mm converter on my bike).

Also, some have the same thread each side and some have a reverse thread.

I did wonder on the GSXR about making some kind of remote folding mirror system - so I could press a button and they'd pop in when coming to tight traffic.
Maybe spring loaded so that it's a bit more effort to return them, but this is generally done when you've got space, are at lights, etc.

Or, get more fancy and do it with some kind of 12v linear actuator.

I always thought it would be good to weld on a butterfly bolt onto the left mirror bolt.

That way you could use your clutch hand to loosen and fold the mirror, and then re-tighten, and in reverse when the road clears up.

With the left mirror in the GSXR 750 K4 can get through most gaps Thumbs Up

The thing is that really wouldn't be quick enough*, ideally they need to be foldable while moving or in a couple of seconds at the most.

*for me, I hate feeling like I'm holding people up, I get frustrated when I get held up by slower people.

Could be done in under 5 seconds, by undoing the bolt the mirror will probably close by it'self, especially if there is any wind. Plus you could do it with one hand while riding.

If only i could weld/had access to a welder.

Wasent there a bloke on here who could weld some pretty tight tolerances? Laughing

I actually do have access to welding gear, cant use it, but it's all there to be used!

I think I may have a go with some of those bar end mirrors Thinking

Mount them under the bars, not over so you're looking under your arm. Sounds daft, works well. Look at the newer pan-euros.

GPz305 mirrors are short and very wide-angle, sit well inboard of the end of the bars. Best bit of the bike, should be plenty out there as the rest of the bike grenades at the first oppertunity.
