Immediate reaction was 'how much?' But given the monumental pain the arse rusty downpipes have given me on my old fossil over the years, probably cheap at half the price. Shame they don't do a stainless silencer too, though I shudder to think how much they'd want for one if they did.

If I win the EuroMillions, I'm getting a non-mild steel seat base made. Stainless mudguards. Carbon fibre tank. And gold plated fork stanchions Laughing

BTW, I'd love the 'old corroded' downpipe they show in this listing. That is 'virtually mint' in my book. Mine is holed in three places and about 90% rust Shocked

I've bought whole RXS100s for spares for less than that downpipe costs Laughing But I guess things are different these days. Everything costs a bloody fortune, even bits for elderly commuter tiddlers.

Main issue is that if I get one of these downpipes, it's not going to help with the holey silencer Laughing I did find it quite intriguing that anyone would go to the trouble of making stainless downpipes for this bike.

Given that someone has done so, maybe they'd also like to knock up a moulded plastic seat base to replace the always rusted-to-buggery ones that afflict the RXS. And maybe a pattern handlebar cluster switch - something that surely is in greater demand than downpipes. Not to mention some hex headed fork tops to replace the fecking pain in the arse mega seize original nonsense.

I would snap up that up! I wish they did one for the h100!

I know it's just a commuter bike but I have fallen in love with it and would like to get my hand on an RXS as well!

Wasn't long ago that people were almost giving away bikes like this. I bought a very large box of RXS spares off ebay for £27 a few years back. That included two perfect swingarms, an alternator with flywheel, four chainguards, front & rear brake drums with usable shoes, two pairs of shocks, grab rail/rear light, wiring loom, ignition coil, assorted levers, kickstart lever, two flywheel covers, various cables and lots of other small bits.

That was the last proper bargain I got. Suddenly commuters are in great demand and being sold for silly prices. Some of the absolutely insane money breakers try to charge of common bits on ebay is shocking. Worst I've seen so far is nearly £20 with postage for a horribly rusty chain guard that should have gone straight in the bin. There's currently a pair of clocks on there - £110 with postage. Used clocks, not brand new. Someone is having a fucking laugh Shocked

Completely defeats the purpose of having a bike like this if you're going to lash out large sums of money left and right. The piss take prices are largely why my old relic is one big mass of bodges now Laughing

However I do think these downpipes are worthwhile - just a shame they don't come with the collar bit (which they should for the money).

There is something oddly addictive about having a commuter tiddler. Never quite been able to work it out myself - it's not just a tightwad thing Laughing

I've also given away lots of RXS stuff in the past. Most of which I wish I still had now Laughing Never foresaw bits for them ever being difficult to find or expensive.

I'd always be wanting to know how much more id have to spend to get me a stainless steel expansion chamber though if I spend £60 on a little downpipe?

My opinion count's for shit though, as i'd never be doing the sorts of miles you have achieved on an RXS and for economic running costs.

Years ago I knew a guy who made some stainless pipes for a 350LC. He planned to produce them commercially if his worked. But they never did. Work, that is. He modified them over and over but he could never get the motor to run properly with them on there, despite being an engineer with a good understanding of such things.

Shame really as they looked the bollocks.

Now and then NOS RXS pipes appear on ebay. Last one went for £104, which seemed expensive at the time but with hindsight was a bloody good price. I think if I had a brand new silencer I could sort it out so it never rusted through. There's a weak spot around the mounting bracket at the downpipe end. You could either weld a reinforcement around the bracket or remove it completely (the overseas RX models don't have that bracket - it serves no real purpose).

I have a dream of a brand new silencer and a stainless downpipe. Though it would look a bit out of place on a rusty old shitheap that's held together with gaffa tape, cable ties and prayers Laughing
