Yamaha DT125LC Project

So I got this a few months ago from a mate who'd put a fair bit of work and money into it but didn't manage to get anywhere in regards to it running. It was missing quite a lot a stuff and I don't really have the money to do a concourse restoration, so it's on a budget. The frame's been powder coated recently and the engine has good compression, also it seems to select gears which is good.

When we got it there was no spark and being used to British bikes I didn't really know anything about CDI's and how to test them, so I got a Haynes and followed the wiring diagram via the makeshift loom that was and still is on the bike to try and get a spark. After pulling apart the generator I found it was missing it's woodruff key so popped off to an autojumble and a nice bloke gave me one for free. However it still wasn't sparking so I went over the wiring again and noticed there where a few earths missing.

I also had an LCII - My first bike! I loved that thing but it never worked properly 100%. If the motor was going ok then there'd be some electrical problem or chassis problem, it was quite funny looking back!

Yeah the mk1 and mk2 DT125LC's are great little bikes. This will be a nice project when it's done indeed!

I saw a tatty but running mk2 DTLC advertised for £400 really local to me. I was very tempted to make a cheeky offer as it was in the IT blue colours which i've always liked. The only thing that stopped me buying it, was not having the space in the garage now the car is in there, and also im surrounded by bit's of stripped down KMX that i've not done a thing with for ages, so another project would have just been stuck in the garden, unless i bring it indoors?

It's been a good project so far and I've learnt a lot, shame it's got no V5 so it'll be restored into a nice field bike. Due to the weather it's currently residing in my kitchen.

I googled "spanny" and everything I painted the exhaust in regular high temp spray paint. Also I'll try get hold of him cheers!
