Planning on going down to Glouster with the girlfriend for a couple weeks, my intention is to send her down on the train and I'll ride down (after pasing my test) and that way we have (albeit slow) transport to get around when we are down there. Its 241 miles each way, plus the miles we will do when we get there.

Is this possible on a CBF 125? Or is it a really silly idea, meaning I should get the train and enjoy being stuck in a house in Glouster with nowhere to go and nothing to do?

Also, is a pillion on a CBF 125 safe? I've been up and down the road with somebody on the back (literally 50 yards, still naughty I know) and it seemed very wobbly - is that just a crap pillion or is it me being inexperienced with a pillion?

Cheers all Thumbs Up Karma

Not a good idea after a long trip on a bike especially for someone inexperienced with pillion riders, but remember this is your girlfriend and if you drop her she will possibly get hurt and no doubt will be seriously pissed off at you knowing that you wobbled the bike with a pillion earlier on. More so your parents or hers will also be pissed off at you being an inexperienced biker that you try such a thing before building up your experience say with carrying weighted down panniers or a pal that doesn't mind possibly falling or panicking at the sight of possible danger ahead!

After a long trip for the 1st time on a 125cc bike you will be tired mentally & physically especially your butt because after an hour of riding you will want to take a break for at least 5-10 minutes to stretch a bit and top up the fuel, if need be, and a possible bite of some food? Also, being mentally exhausted because you would be concentrating so hard on following the road signs to make sure you don't get lost on the way too.

I would take the train and enjoy each others company and I am sure she will be happy that you're keeping her company on the train to have someone to chat to along the way. You've got two good feet go for a romantic walk together and have fun!

If you managed to pass a test you must have a degree of competence, maybe just need a bit of confidence. Personally I would take the bike - got to be cheaper than a train and you've got transport when you get there.

Smile I hired a cg 125 on Majorca for a day, her indoors on the back, just for somthing different to do, usually hire a car when abroad, not the best Idea iv'e had should have hired a bigger bike, but I'm a cheapskate, Downside :- got blown about a lot from 4x4s, lorrys ect overtaing us on dual carriage ways, couldnt get the bike up to 60 cause of the weight carring a pillion, plus side :- hey it was an experience and fun, with her off the back the bike felt a lot better, and on smaller quieter roads was very nimmble and easy to handle, would I ride another one, probably not, after hiring a 650 Deauville and toured Cornwall with herself on pillian, bloody fantastic, anyway If you do go ahead just take your time, read up on carrying a pillian, theres good advice if you google it, and if girfriend is not happy well at least you tried it.....stay safe out there Thumbs Up

The distance there and back should not be a problem, first day I picked up my 125 I covered 300km (186miles) just poping around getting used to it Smile was a fun day Smile not sure about 2 up, but they can do it, just depends on you and the GF. If you don't go 2 up at lest you can have a good ride up there and back Wink

Used to go from Gloucester to Brean/weston and back threw Bristol on a Lexmoto XTR with me L plates left at home every weekend for months, 2 up on a 125 is fine, just allow yourself plenty of time to break, prepare to rev the balls off it at the lights, and pray when there's any uphills, I found 3rd gear was the only gear to keep up moving on some hills.

Welcome to Gloucester by the way, extremely boring, be sure to head out towards stroud and painswick, some really nice country roads to be had.

On the way to painswick there's a slip road leading to painswick beacon, a nice place to take a walk, or you have robinswood hill in Gloucester.

2up on a 125 isn't brilliant but it can be done. I've been pillion on the back of a CBR125 and I'm 6ft2 and about 11st Laughing However you'll never learn if you don't try. As always, it's most difficult at low speeds. Once you're 10-15mph plus it's fine. Just make sure she doesn't move around below that.
