My ZRX was looking sad and unloved after my total lack of mechanical sympathy and a lot of hard winters as well as being stored outside with no cover. I decided I'd get it spruced up a bit as I was told I needed to sort it out for my stag do in May and I was also able to combine it with a bit of a uni video project (which I'll be posting here when it's done).

This is the before photo - in truth the photo makes it look a lot better than it was!

So I left it with a mate who's been fevering away with cleaning it up. We gave it service of oil, filter, air filter, plugs, new coolant etc etc as well as putting new exhaust collars on it as the old ones had rotten through. We also put some new (to me) shocks on it as the old ones were a leaky corroded mess. The front mudguard had been badly cracked after a Volvo driver reversed into me and seeing as neither of us can plastic weld I decided to sticker bomb it. Not to everyones taste I'm sure but I've decided I really like it. Just as well really as a new mudguard is £140 from Mr Kawasaki-san! Laughing I took the mirrors off as I think it looks meaner too. I thought it'd be weird to ride without them but I have been commuting by bicycle through central Manchester for the last two years with no mirrors and it was fine when I rode the bike earlier. My mate sprayed some of the badly corroded covers on the engine which made quite a difference.

Here's some photos of how it stands at the moment:

Look at that shine!

Still to do before the end of May:

Arrow New pair of tyres
Arrow Chain and sprockets
Arrow Valve clearances checked
Arrow ZZR1100 cams put in when the valves are done
Arrow New back brake or at least a full overhaul of the current one as it doesn't really work at the moment
Arrow MOT
Arrow Re-insure (got a renewal quote for £90, ace! Laughing )

Quick video still from the film too:

We were incredibly unlucky with the weather but deadlines and setbacks beyond our control meant today was the only day that we could shoot.

My eventual plan for the bike is to take it with me when I hopefully move to Berlin later in the year and then leave it in my then father in laws garage and do a full strip/powdercoat/rebuild deal. Until then I'll just keep using oily rags!

The cams and valves are being done at the same time, I wasn't particularly clear on that in my first post sorry! The guy who's doing the valves for me already has a set of cams waiting to go in, I just need to organise a ride down to Milton Keynes or wherever he lives. Trouble there is the MOT/insurance runs out in a few days and I need to sort the back brake and probably the tyres before that so won't be able to get down until all that's done!

Both tyres have slow punctures although the rear tyre is less slow. They're both a bit cracked as well so new tyres are a bit of a priority at the moment.

Only just found this, looks like a massive improvement! Definitely want to get those mirrors back on for when we go away though, I want to know when I've got a tailback of M3s and 911s! Wink

There aren't really any bikes out there that I would 'want', however, the ZRX, yes please in a heart beat.
