I could stomach putting £1k down and then paying about £200 a month for a brand new machine - um nice. Then I did a quick insurance quote - HOLY FUCK. same again! Bugger this living in London & parking bike on street...!!!!

The deposit would only be £99 if you did it over 4 years, which if you're after a new yamaha anyway you might as well even if you've got the cash upfront. You could leave it in an ISA and get the 3-4% or whatever interest you get nowadays.

You could get a fairly new ER6 or SV650 for under half the price though. The SV is only about 4k new which would still work out cheaper even if you got a bank loan to buy it.

Nice deal.
Are XJ6's not a bit bland though?

Last I read they were just 'ok'.

5 years ago maybe. They're £5K now. In fact, £99 down and 48 payments at Suzuki's swingeing 9.8% APR gets you... £125.60 a month and £6,127.80 total, slightly more than HPing the XJ at 0%. Shocked

Right, good luck with that Suzuki.

i just dont understand how people buy things on hp, or buy any vehicle new for that matter,
if you havnt got the money, dont buy it, buy some thing cheaper, or save up more,

ok 0% apr is good but, how much would it actually have cost you after 4 years in losses in value,

Oh god not this again! Its quite simple people, if some us us didn't buy new bikes then there wouldn't be a second hand market.

I bought a new bike and took advantage of 0% finance just because it was available. I could have just paid over the wedge and been done with it but the money is better in my account than Kawasaki's.

The reasons for buying new are different for each individual, for me it was a case of having that feeling of picking up my shiny new bike and knowing that it was spanking new. I'll probably do it again at some point, I've had new cars too and think nothing of buying new clothes!

I do however buy second hand stuff too, I just picked up a lovely forcefield back protector and often pick up clothes on ebay or charity shops.

Second hand buyer can sleep safe in the knowledge that my er6f will one day be for sale on the second hand market.

Just doing my bit!

Thumbs Up

interesting, however you are aware that credit makes the world go round? if no body buys new then there will be no second hand??? and industry will collapse, if new vehicles are not purchased ? i think a conservative estimate would be put into practice 250,000 jobs would be lost in three years, further endebting government, personal expenditure for the ex-employees would be reduced, not as much money in the economy would have a knock on effect on (bot not limited too) state benefits, banks, every aspect of credit control (employs a LOT of people) even supermarkets would have to review there workforce, so i think maybe before you assume a "holier than thou" approach and your oh so obvious financial superiority.

Just saying.

I got my Street which was a year old on finance, just over £100 a month and I put down a £100 deposit. I went for finance because I couldn't afford to buy a bike out right at the time. I think I made the right choice because the deal is quite flexible, I can pay it off whenever I want and if I decide to pay a lump sum one month they reduce the monthly premiums.

The only downside I guess is if I want to change bikes it's not as easy as selling and buying something else.

I've worked bloody hard all my life and something new is my reward. 0% is essentially spening someone elses money and not being charged for it - may as well have it then!

I bought my (now sold) Street Triple new on finance. The APR was stuidply low (I ended up paying about £350 on top of the new price) and this was when they were cheap. I think mine was only £5.5k retail. I had all the money available to pay off the bike but chose not to as it meant I could still do other stuff as it kept money free, like go on holiday etc.

Anyway, In the end I sold it for a grand less than what I paid after 2 years use. Not great but not particularly bad either.

At 0%, the loan is actually shrinking over the term thanks to inflation.

A better argument would be whether it's ever worth buying a bike from new, rather than letting some other mug take the initial hit.

I pick up the brand new XJ6N within the next week or 2.

I've heard its bland, I've heard its boring, I've even heard its a hoot, agile and has a good deal of torque to play around with, capable as a city bike and bags of fun on the odd hoon.

Seems reviews are like that though. People say what they thought of the bike and since we are all different we all have different opinions.

I went for mine after serious research including a post on here. All seemed to point to the same thing, it'll do exactly what it says on the tin. A good little city bike, decent fuel eco and a workhorse. Ok so its not thrilling like a GSXR or Fireblade and its not as nippy and fast as the likes of the Hornet and Speed Triple but I have a bike thats pretty fast and sporty (ish) and I use around 10% of its full potential. I'd rather have a bike I can get the use out of than a bike I am not really using. XJ seems to fit that bill.

Why new? Why not? As said, someone has to buy new so there is a second hand market and 0% finance is a decent deal. I had a decent deposit and my repayments are £85 a month. Cant complain at that especially when I am planning to keep the bike for a lot of years.

I could have waited another few months to save up the £3-4K needed to buy a second hand one that I have to take the buyers word that its not been ridden like an idiot or caused the deaths of any kittens or I could buy a brand spanking new one, have the benefits of knowing for sure no one has owned your bike before you without paying silly interest for.

You have to remember that some of us don't like "fixing" bikes, we like RIDING bikes.
When I had my old 125 I spent more time making it work and fixing bits that fell off. While I enjoyed it it did reduce the time I spent having real fun.

I went out and bought a new ER6f when I passed my test and love the fact that I walk out into the garage, put my keys in, and ride. All I have to do is the usual check the oil (never uses any) and clean and look after it.

Is it the fact that some people don't like that some of us CAN afford to buy a new bike? Do people dislike that I want to buy something new and shiny?

I didn't have even 2k to one side to buy a bike, but I do have £130 a month to buy one.

I bought my first two bikes brand new, on HP, because I wanted to. I wanted those bikes, and I wanted them now. So I got them.

HP serves a purpose. I bought my first 2 bikes on HP and even took out a small loan to pay for my van.

All of which is know paid off.

Exactly, imagine if you saved up for years, bought it and then crashed and died. If you'd gone HP you'd be ahead. Wink

Somewhat confused. Is that the price in the loan the of the non-ABS version? If you click the More Info button you get:

Quote:
XJ6 £ 5,999.00
XJ6 ABS £ 6,399.00

Neither match, so is it the non ABS version with £100 added to the price? I'm doubting that it's the ABS version with a pre-negotiated discount.. but you never know Black Eye
