Hey,
My department currently employes 4 staff. At the moment we all work a shift pattern of Days-Days-Lates-Earlies. As such we all get shift pay.

Next month the shifts are changing. 2 guys will be on shift 2 guys on permanent days. As such 2 of us will possibly loose our shift pay (roughly 100 quid a month). The change of shifts is to provide 7 day cover and is not due to a downturn.

I can't afford to loose this money as im struggling on my current wage!

Can i be forced on to days and forced to take a pay cut? I cant find nothing in my company handbook. Just after some advice so i can confront my boss if the need arises.

Cheers,
Shaun.

What about talking to the other guys? Ask what they are going to do?

If you are on days then what is the weekend allowance (Sat may be different from Sun)?

As said you could ask to stay on shift system, depends if others have a better case/need.

Not sure about any law, employers can just about do what they like in this area. At least you're not been made redundant and having to apply for your old job.

Is it not a case of the usual hours worked? I'm not sure on the actual phrase but if you have worked the hours continually for ages, they cannot force you to change them. Something like that. Especially if it will make you lose pay!

Hey,
Thanks for the advice so far.

The Hours worked per month work out as roughly the same. My current contracted hours are 40 per week. However we get shift allowance for working a shift.....No shift no shift allowance. I do have my contract stating my wage (Which has shift allowance incorporated) so i'm assuming they have some kind of obligation to pay it?

Me and one of the other guys put our names forward to stay on shift and at the time everyone was happy. Now one of the guys who chose days has decided he wants to go on shift.

Been the bosses pet i can only assume they will favour him. Call me paranoid but i'd rather have a backup argument than non.

True its better than been redundant however i still have a mortgage and bills to pay and another kid on the way. I'm currently just keeping above water and that's after i have made cut backs.

Cheers,
Shaun.

Pretty sure they can give you 90 days notice to change your T&C's and then you have to like it or lump it.

I'd find out how the others feel, they may want the day shifts! Then you need to discuss it with your manager if he has the authority to set it in place!

You beat me to it J4mes, I was about to say that they have to give 3 months written notice to change your contract & vice versa.
