Hi all,
I have just put a new Shimano chain on my road bike and although the pin looks to be in far enough the link is still a bit stiff. Before I start pushing the pin one way or the other I thought I'd ask if anyone has any tips for getting this right. This is my first attempt at this
For info I'm using a chain breaker to fit the pin supplied with the chain. I went for the easing it in a bit at a time a seeing how tight the link was.
Cheers
Vin

Using a chain tool to tighten the pins is old fashioned and out of date Razz

Use a KMC Missing Link or Shimano Chain Pins.

Bicycles, bicycles, money, money, spend, spend, buy, buy, new, new.

It never fucking stops.

People have been joining chains exactly as you have, using a chain tool to shove the puins in and out for years. Don't waste time money and effort buying unecessary shit.

Get hold of the chain either side of the stiff link and flex it back and forth against the side plates a couple of times.

It's a bit of trial and error, sometimes you push it in and it just works, sometimes you need to wiggle it back and forth a bit. Depending on the quality of your chain tool you may have a rung specifically for making minor adjustments. My park tool does.

Just to clarify, they work ok on Shimano chains? I go cycle touring and an easy fix in the event of a chain failure is desirable. Having said that I'd still need to carry a chain breaking tool to remove a broken link. So they might not really offer much advantage Thinking
