OK, letter came through for my brother, his stolen Honda moped is having a logbook applied for it.

Obviously, he is going to contact them, anyone else had this process before? What happens exactly?

.
I would imagine a call to the 'boys in blue' would result in them going round to the individual (probably sold to) that has been keeping it in 'storage' for him and inform your brother to collect it.!

However if he has been paid out by the insurance company it will technically be their property now.

He may be able to get a good buy-back deal from the insurance company if that is the case. (if he should want it.)

Third party only insurance, was not worth claiming for. So technically its still his, even if new owner has bought in good faith...

So was it actually reported stolen even if insurance not notified*?

Obviously he needs to inform the DVLA. But I would also let the police know as they would relish the opportunity of an easy box ticked for the statistics I should think.

If the 'borrower' gets a sniff from the DVLA first that all may not be well the bike may vanish.

Could he prove that if push came to shove?

Eh, I'd be on to the rozzers right away. Got a crime number, right?

Best of luck, and let's have a vid of the new purchaser bawwwing when the ped is bagged. More fool them if they fell for the "The dog ate the logbook and manual and keys" line. If folk didn't buy obviously stolen bikes, there would be less incentive to nick them.

I'd say about 1yr > 1.5yr.

He got it, sorted everything for MOT, dad helped him. Passed, used it once and someone stole it.

Not always, the R6 that was shared virally on Fb had pictured suspects they know, and have a search on for but they won't actually go and check the know addresses of these thieves - incase they're wrong. Too many fines to hand out perhaps.

Never tell until you HAVE to. Wink

Cool Story bro. Thumbs Up
Very Happy

Here's a thing of interest.

Say your bike is nicked but worthless so you don't report theft to insurer or popo.
You, as far as records are concerned, still own or are the keeper of the bike. You also have a current insurance policy for it.

Based on the recent revelation that insurer of the stolen vehicle will have to pay damages for any accident the stolen vehicle is involved in, where does that leave the owner if the bike injures/kills someone or causes property damage? He never told his insurer or the police. Shocked

It may be a responsibility you must tell the popo and your insurer.
I could check my policy detail but too late to be arsed.

Lapsed before theft or after??
If it wasn't worth shot then claiming may have cost more than the beast was worth (in NCD increased premiums)

Just a high pathetically question.

You should tell your insurer.

However, I'd suggest that you simply instruct them to cancel the policy as you no longer have the bike, thank you, bye now [click].

That's 100% true, if not 100% of the truth.

If this seems like dissembling, I just ask myself "What would a politician do?" then follow their upstanding ethical example.

Or wait a minute.... Would it give me a 'shot' at that baw heid A. Salmon?
