Looking into getting a honda nsr 125 2003, it has 14000 miles on it full years mot and half a years tax, i talked the guy down to 600, which i think is a fair price for the bike as it's in good condition. Anyway the guy de restricted the bike. I only have my cbt and provisonal and i am worried i will have to pay a couple of hundred of quid to get it restricted? Will the insurance company ask for proof that it is restricted?? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Insurance company wont ask for proof, how could you? dyno? as far as their concerned it will be restricted as standard unless you tell them otherwise.

They won't ask for proof but it could cause some issues if you bin it and they have a good look over the bike.

Did he get a dealer to de-restrict the bike? Lots of strikers owned by young riders have bodged full power changes / air filters and other junk which can lead to a nice seize.

With that mileage has it been rebuilt? They usually need a rebuild around 10k miles irc.

I dunno if it has been rebuilt or not, i actually would prefer it to restricted, but would prefer to own a nsr because then when i get my full test i can just get it de restricted instead of searching for a new bike. Would i get much hassle of the police for riding it?

A bike worth 600 quid is hardly going to be insured fully comp.

I will only insure it third party. I currently have a cg125, but i work 20 miles away and have to travel on about 15 miles of A roads. I was expecting more top speed of the cg i will hit 60 but then it struggles, think i saw 65 once doing down a hill. I'm only 5ft10 and weigh 11stone. Just want something a bit more suited to a roads.

Why not spend the money on getting a full licence, then flog the CG and get something nearly ten times as powerful for the same money. In the long run It's a cheaper option than trying to achieve an extra 5mph from a highly strung 2T.

Then look on the bright side, the roadcraft skills you develop by having to use an underpowered vehicle will be worth their weight in gold over the next seventy odd years of biking ahead of you, I'm not being sarcastic. Speed isn't everything, at forty seven years of age I could just about afford to drive a Ferrari if I wanted to, but I find my 60mph flat-out classic Landrover a lot more fun.

More like 20mph difference between a restricted and derestricted NSR.

NSRs aren't particularly highly strung either, and a top end rebuild is only a mornings work...
