OK, this is my predicament - my RXS handlebar cluster switch has been endlessly bodged, mostly in the area of the indicator switch contacts area. It's reached a ridiculous stage now where I'm frequently having to do things to the bloody thing just to have working indicators.

RXS switches are extremely hard to come by. They don't make pattern versions for some odd reason. So I think my only alternative is to use a switch from a different bike with the same controls (on/off switch for lights, hi/lo/parking switch, horn button, indicator switch).

My grasp of electrical matters has always been sketchy at best. Has anyone done this sort of bodge? Should it be relatively simple to make another switch work on my loom?

Failing that, wondering if it's possible to get individual electrical bits from anywhere. The main issue I have is a seriously worn indicator plate. This is just a small bit of plastic with three brass contacts on it - the wires solder to the back of it and it forms part of the indicator switch assembly inside the main body of the cluster. The brass has been worn down for years and I keep bodging with solder, which works, but it's only a matter of time till the bit of plastic breaks...and then I won't have indicators.

Pretty much all such switches I've seen work in the same way, so I reckon it should be pretty easy - probably just a case of adapting the connectors (maybe cut off the new one and wire on your old one) to fit.

What G said.

It should be simple enough to pick up a suitable switch cluster and use half of the cable with the connector ends of your standard one, half of the cable with switch end of the new one and some crimp butts and suitable heat shrink in the middle. Thumbs Up

ETA

Stagger the crimps to avoid bunching and unsightly bulges. Wink

This is what I thought and I'm glad it looks like it would work Smile

I may need to take a rare trip down the local breakers to search for a donor switch.

The main issue is that all switches of this era (mid-80s) are now pretty difficult to come by. I've got an AR125 cluster switch which I'm thinking might go on. Considering taking the original switch off before it breaks, then just bodging something for everyday use, putting the proper on back on just for MOTs Laughing

Saw an RX100 switch on ebay (identical, but for decals) but it would have cost nearly 90 quid with postage Shocked Which is about three times more than the whole bike is worth Laughing
