having used 8 its not a PC friendly system and I doubt I will go for 8.1 unless there is a radical change in the layout
it took me 20 minutes before I gave up on 8.0 that was on my mates new laptop
I couldn't get to the control panel to fix a printer issue and no start menu

I actually put windows 8 on my desktop when i had a rehash (while installing an ssd for the os) and i've actually gotten used to it, not arsed about lack of start menu (turns out i use it rarely)

Just have to ignore the metro 'start menu' and it's useless incompatible apps.

Boot time is rapid now, about 30 seconds from a hard boot. in windows 7 (with an ancient IDE drive) i was seeing closer to 7 minutes

There are a few annoyances and i've no idea why they left in tablet only options on the desktop version (such as the brightness control etc) but meh
